Morea
I play rock music, most u2 and green day,i have Marshall JCM900 and VOX tonelab SE. So question is,les paul or es 339,help me please,i cant decide
swleary
Well that would be your decision but it all depends on what you want it for, Classical, blues jazz, rock etc. Personally I'd get a Les Paul but with that said, go with your gut. I am a firm believer that the guitar finds the player rather than the player finds the guitar Hope that helps a bit
Morea
i will use it for rock, but i dont like lp's 490 pickups, but i dont know realy
swleary
I went and looked up the specs on the es 339 because I'm not that familiar with that model. I was really impressed that Gibson used maple and poplar with a mahogany neck. I also like the 57 pickups. Hmmm ......now you got me wondering . A studio is a few hundred $ cheaper but the ES 339 is very nice. Now I want to try one out !!!
Morea
now u see what problems i have
swleary
I hear what your saying. I have a studio with Burstbucker pros in it.I got the worn brown studio and the pickups were what sold me on it.
Morea
Les Paul standard has Burstbucker pro but he is much more expencier
swleary
I was looking on the MF website and for the same money you could get a Les Paul traditional http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-Traditional-Pro-Electric-Guitar?sku=581715

Thundergod
Play both and see what fits you better. And of course... I would say Les Paul.
Tim Plains
I'd also say Les Paul but if you can afford a 339, why are you looking at a LP Studio? Buy used. You can buy a used Les Paul '58 reissue for less than a new 339. Way better guitar.
Morea
im looking for studio becouse he has mahagony body and neck, and other lp's have only mahagony neck, but ill buy new pickups if ill buy lp
esch
Do you like apples or oranges better? LP is potentially more versatile and suited to rock. I have a 339 and LPs, and it is a fantastic guitar. Personally I find BB Pros to be the best (to my ears) and I am thinking of swapping out the 57 classics for those in the 339. I am almost inclined to say I like the 490s (studio) better than the 57 classics? Anyway good advice is to try them both, see what range of music fits best for each. They're both awesome guitars. Morea
tnx and of course ill try them both (again)
Tim Plains
Morea, ALL Les Pauls have mahogany bodies...except for the Raw Power, I think. I believe you're referring to the maple cap. Les Paul Studios have maple caps. The Studio Faded, or Vintage Mahogany...whatever you want to call it...is all mahogany. Studio - 490/498. Vintage Mahogany - Burstbucker Pros. The only other LP with a mahogany top is the historic Custom. If you buy used, you might be able to find one for a bit more than a new 339. Tim Plains
For example - here's a '54 reissue with an asking price of $2,450. http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=632209

rocketman
Murph, where are you? I love both of them. Are Nine makes some good points, but you can get a good used 339 too of course. Here's one with a current bid of $1,430. Anyhow, you really can't go wrong with either.
DAS44
Play em both, then decide. Simple as that.
