Andre S
How do you think the 57 classic sounds compared to the 490R? I'm looking into switching from the 490r to another, if I don''t like the sound.. Considering all options
Dub-T-123
The 57 Classic and 490r are very similar. What don't you like about the 490r? What are you looking for in a different pickup?

Well, as these things go, I got a great sound out of my treble pickup, but the neck sounds dark... I am not changing it for sure...I am considering it as a last resort... I am considering all options
Dub-T-123
Are you using the original pots and caps? You can switch to 500k pots to brighten it up a little. That may be the perfect fix.

jamman
Did you think about trying a Lightweight Aluminum Tailpiece along with the pots & caps? It made a big difference when i did all of them on mt LP faded.

deepblue
490's are a little harsh for my taste. They break too early. Its cool if your into high gain tones. Me, I have mellowed with age and prefer lower output pups and let my amp do the work.

I was thinking maybe the Lindy Fralin PAF pickup?
Murph
I like the 490 in my Studio. It's way hotter than the '57's in my 339, but very bluesy through my Boogie......
