jimmiJAMM
So, it seems the neck on my '07 SG Standard is a too chunky for me to do the thumb-over wrap thing and I'm annoyed. Jimi played SG's but he mainly used a Fender Strat. He may have also had big hands. Dammit!
Riverside
...He may have also had big hands. Dammit! I always though Stanley Clarke would have been a great NBA player for the same reason.
deepblue
Jimi's hands were massive. His thumbs used to give me the creeps.
Bowdiddley
Jimi's hands were massive. His thumbs used to give me the creeps. I've noticed that also, freaky big fingers.
GIANTRobOT420
He could probably wrap it round twice.
FirstMeasure
Jimi's hands were massive. His thumbs used to give me the creeps. He could use his thumb to Fret the E and A strings, SRV as well. Big hands have certain advantages, that's for sure.

FirstMeasure
I can do that too. Big whoop. I can't play like them. David Gilmour has Small Hands and he's outa sight. It's not the REASON they play good, but it's an advantage.
Duckslayer74
I have the same freakin problem, I have small hands already so I tend to bar it. I like to play SRV so that always annoys the crap outta me, tht and i play an LP so it ticks me off even more with the fatter neck lol
milod
My hands are small, but depending on neck positioning can get the wrap. So.... Yeah, I tend to barre more than use the thumb, but it depends on what I'm playing. Seriously, I think it's the overall hand positioning although certainly larger hands might help. In another thread I reference a Segovia master class on youtube where he's teaching a young woman guitarist and told her that her hands were plenty big enough, but that her positioning on the neck wasn't correct to get the fingers to stretch. m
