I am working on a guitar that has L48 stamped on the upper F hole and the serial number 80759 stamped in the back of the headstock...anyone have a clue on how I can date this instrument?

Thanks for any help/assistance/guidance.

Trying to date an L-48 with the number “1982 9” stamped on the inside back through the treble-side F-hole.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Pictures would help but with what you state, could be 1946 or 1947

Are you sure it's L-48? A lot of similar models around that time

Here's from Vintage Guitars Info - Gibson collecting vintage gibson guitars (guitarhq.com)

Model: L-48 Acoustic Archtop
Available: 1946 to 1971.
Collectibility Rating: D- (a very basic non-cutaway model).

1946 L-48 introduction specs:
16" wide, mahogany top (some early models with spruce top), single bound top and back, dot fingerboard inlays (a few early models with trapezoid), silkscreen peghead logo, sunburst finish.
1952 L-48 specs:
Spruce top, maple back, mahogany sides.
1954 L-48 specs:
Some with a spruce top and some with a laminated mahogany top.
1957 L-48 specs:
Laminiated mahogany top and sides, laminated maple back specified in catalog but in reality most had a mahogany back.
L-48 discontinued in 1971.
Quick Overview: Serial Number/FON Identification by Era.
1942-1947: Factory Order Numbers with 3 or 4 digits, followed by a hyphen, followed by 1 or 2 more digits, ink stamped on neck block (flattops) or on the inside back,
1947-1952: Factory Order Numbers of 3 or 4 digits, followed by a hyphen, followed by by 1 or 2 more digits, ink stamped on the inside back.

I forgot to mention that I can see L-48 in the top F-Hole. Attaching pics.

In 47   Some L48s had trapezoid inlays and a script  logo.   I have one.   In 48 they went to dot inlay and  a print logo      Some where in time frame going into the 50s the f holes were a tad larger.  Yours are like the L50 style
