Anyone Have A Opinion Of The Epiphone MM-50 Mandolin?

I have an MM-30E, and it's built well, but I'm not a huge fan of the sound.

It could be the strings, though, and it could also be the style. Maybe the sound I'm expecting is more of an F-style sound than an A-style.

Kevin Hearn of Barenaked Ladies uses one for his mandolin parts, and he doesn't seem to cheap out on his other instruments.

You can him playing at 24:41 on "For You" as part of Talk To The Hand: Live In Michigan. It's the 2007 tour, I believe.

The sound of the F-Style that guy uses is nice, but it has a pickup. Not sure if all of them do.

It seems like you can't go wrong for the price!

Thanks for the information.

I had one for a short time some years ago. It had a pressed top (not carved) and very thick poly tone killing finish. There are much better choices out there IMO. Check here for more info: www.mandolincafe.com
