slagg
might have a deal on a g400 right handed, but i'm a lefty,is there enough room on the tune-o-matic bridge to set it up lefty?has anyone converted one of these to lefty?B)
AnthemBassMan
-The tune-o-matic will have to be redrilled so the angle is reveersed. Also you'll need a new nut cut for a left handed guitar. L8R, Matt D.
slagg
yeah,i was thinking this myself.unlike a strat type bridge, but is there any other bridge to use say for example a "badass"type"bridge ?rap around stp tail type ajustable? RotcanX
Nope. Badasses and the like will only work on a guitar that was built without a tune-o-matic to start with. Basically, it's rarely worth the effort to convert a Gibson style guitar to lefty... better to just get the proper left-handed version.
dubstar
I just looked at mccartney's casino, and it appears that the aside from the saddle placement, the original RH bridge remained unchanged...aside from a new nut and adjusting the saddles, I don't think he or hendrix bothered to change the bridges, although I could be wrong. I guess it would depend on how much adjustment you can make with the saddle and how important perfect intonation is to you? let me know, as I have considered doing this...I picked up an original LH stop bar / string anchor for a maestro vibrola and can't decide whether to install it on my LH sg or pick up an epiphone LH or RH...no money for that now, anyway... dubstar
"better to just get the proper left-handed version." ah, that's RH logic...try that when the guitars are either not available, highly sought after, and/or more expensive : )

Suicidehummer
Hey, my dad's a lefty, and he was forced to play righty as a kid, and he's as good as any other guitarist now, so just force yourself! He thinks he's got an advantage b/c he fingers w/ his dominant hand, but I don't know if he's right. Anybody else done that?
dubstar
the days of leftys being forced to be rightys are long gone...no more ruler across the knuckles LOL sure, plenty of leftys felt they had no choice but to play RH...as for what your dad believes, that may be true, but it is also true that the picking / strumming hand is just as important... anyhow, I wouldn't change if I could... slagg
i was forced to play golf right handed in my younger days when i went and bought my own i bought lefties and hit it 50 to 60 yards longer and more accurate.so i think to be the best you can be at whatever it should be natural, not forced, shaken not sturred. Suicidehummer
I would want to play righty if I was a lefty just b/c you could get any guitar you want. But hey, you can still get the Iommi SG! BTW, has anyone played an Iommi? I considered one while shopping for my LP, but couldn't find one at a store.
evol04gt
no musical playing should EVER be forced... play the way that comes natural. play the way your body chooses to express itself.. it saddens me so much to hear musicians tell other musicians to FORCE themselves to play certain ways... that is the same thing as forcing every guitar player to only play chords or accompaniment. such a huge percentage of righthanded people always tell a lefty to "relearn" or why not just flip the guitar around... the g400 iommi is neat BUT- but it looks like a cheap knock off metal guitar.. and for the 200 more, all you get are PASSIVE emgs... whats the point? just buy used 490s or 57s for it.... IMHO.... zzounds.com looks to be backordered till the 13th... sigh...im on vacation from the 8th to the 17th.. so my guitar wont even be here till i go back to work....sigh... nothing like waiting 8 weeks for a guitar. SyreCorp
I could be mistaken, but I think Gary Moore is a lefty forced righty...?
flyingfrets
My son & I both play (we're right-handed) and between us have 16 guitars. My 11 year old step son recently informed me that he would like to play. I'm thinking, "Cool. Well, at least I can save a few bucks and pass on one of my bolt-on Juniors or one of the Squires." SURPRISE!!! He's a "leftie." So last Saturday, it was back over to see my buddy at GC. Hooked me up with a nice "leftie" LP Special in Antique Sunburst with a case for $149. Nope, not top of the line, but at least it won't piss the kid off to the point he thinks he just can't play. Shhh... . He doesn't know yet & his birthday's not till this Saturday...
