JefferySmith
That damned Guitar Fetish site has me wanting to swap out some volume and tone control knobs for something more....substantial. I have a special little tool for pulling keys off of a keyboard, but have never seen a similar device for pulling volume/tone control knobs without buggering the control's post or the finish. Is it just a matter of pulling directly upward? If so, I may try some hemostats or pliers to pull them upward. Is this pretty much the norm? jcwillow777
Yes. I have used a string or a thin rag. Sometimes I can't get a string under the knob, then a rag works nice. Just pull up straight and work from side to side. Sometimes they come of really easy, sometimes not. I have had good luck with knobs from GFS. I have gotten 3 sets of speed knobs from them and they have fit perfectly. I emailed stewmac about a tool for this, they said one doesn't exist. ef_in_fla
Here's a tip that I read somewhere: use a couple medium or heavy guitar picks. Slide them under each side of the knob and pry upward. It works great.
pohatu771
Sometimes they come of really easy' date=' sometimes not.[/quote']You're telling me. I actually broke a knob on my Casino because I couldn't get it off. The second tone knob on my Strat is impossible, also. Don't worry about the Casino... a touch of gold nail varnish and I'm the only one who can tell it was broken.
