o8jedi Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 So I'm kicking around Flea-bay and I see what is, for all intents and purposes, a steal: MIK cherry Casino (color of choice) SKB 335-shape case Grover tuners pre-installed (stock ones included) Buy-it-now price: $695 Shipping: $45 flat God, I want to push that button! :D Alas, I can't yet justify that to myself, considering I'm in a bit of a transitionary phase, economically. If someone can justify it, please do!

Have they appreciated ??

Parabar Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 You can do better. Be patient and keep watching eBay.
Ron G Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 You can do better. Be patient and keep watching eBay. Agreed. Why pay a new price for a used guitar? Don't be misled into thinking these things hold value in some special way.
tflanster Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 The used guitar market is in the tank just as is the economy. I know, I've gone though it trying to sell a couple guitars for what I thought was "reasonable" prices, and I actually bought a couple for way less than what the sell deemed reasonable. Why. They needed the dough. I was just looking at an ad on Craig's list. Some guy's trying to sell a Samick acoustic for "only $240 - a great deal because I paid $300 for it". (Just an example, I'm not looking for one). That's at best a $125 used guitar. Can't blame the guy for trying though. There are a lot of suckers around. I don't much trust ebay for anything. At least on Craigs you can actually see the instrument, play it, and dicker face to face with the seller. Can't do that on evil bay. If a deal is "too good to be true", it likely isn't. Just my humble opinion.
o8jedi Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 You sure? Considering it comes with aftermarket tuners and a flight case, I'd say it brings it to around even.
jcwillow777 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 You sure? Considering it comes with aftermarket tuners and a flight case' date=' I'd say it brings it to around even.[/quote'] Number one - the original tuners on a Casino are Grovers, Asian, but Grovers non the less. I have never had a problem with the stock tuners. I really don't think that is that big of a selling point. Number two - new they are $699, shipped. This one is $740 shipped. It isn't a flight case, it's just a hard shell case. There is a difference. For $40 more you can get a new Casino with a hard shell case, and a warrantee.
o8jedi Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Fair enough. I appreciate the advice. On a different note, what would be a good ballpark range for such an instrument/deal? I know, my inexperience is showing.
tflanster Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Knock about 40% off the new price and start dickering from there. I bought an Epi Dot a while back, including a 20' cable, a tuner, a couple of computer learning programs, a dozen picks and a strap. The stuff was about 5 months old. The guy had close to $600 in it. He wanted $400. I offered $200. Got it for $220. A guitar, or anything else for that matter, is worth exactly what someone will pay for it - not a dime more. If you don't get the one you tried to get, wait for another one. Just about the only used stuff you see at close to new prices are the Gibsons, Taylors, high end Fenders, etc., and even some of those can be had for 40 cents on the dollar at times. Gotta be patient!
