blackbird
Hi, This is my new epi les paul custom, which I paid £100 for. Does anyone know the year of production (ish) as the guitar has no serial numbers etc. Just sent it for a set up and etc http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp239/blackbird1979/014.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp239/blackbird1979/013.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/pp239/blackbird1979/012.jpg let me know what you think... it really sings through my valve amp and sounds very very close to the original gibsons i've owned!! twiggy
where da hell have you got it from for such a disasterously tiny price?
corcoran
Looks kinda fake to me. But glad to hear that it plays well. =D
blackbird
Hi, thanks for the replies... it's not fake, epiphone have had more than 1 headstock shape. I think it's an early Korean custom. It has Gohto tuners japanese stamped bridge (abr) and stop tail piece The binding is all cream with age and the gold hardware has loads and loads of wear. It needs a bit of work like a new nut and a set up so I took it to a local luthier he asked me how much I wanted for it as he liked it so much! Like i said it sounds cool but plays rubbish at the mo... I should have it back by saturday all set up and ready to rock!! If anyone knowlegeable knows any thing about its age it would be greatly received P.s I got it from ebay, I think it was a bargain as it was 'pick up only' no postage and I lived about 30 miles away so that reduces the amount of interest... I'm happy with the purchase though

StunOperator
It's not a fake. It's a late '80s-early '90s Korean Epiphone.

Guitar Chico
Fake or not, he likes it and that's all that really matters. Unless there's a bump on the road along the way. GC
blackbird
I was kinda hoping for some people who know there stuff to make constructive comments but looks like thats not going to happen! Theres no serial look at this link and the headstock changes through the years, not just the current ones from china[-x http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj282/psychobuckets/EB_008.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/epiphone-les-pauls/21523-epiphone-headstock-shapes.html&h=450&w=600&sz=154&hl=en&start=7&um=1&usg=__vn6AMnQabBv59sJYHK3IYgjVIR8=&tbnid=0mDZvcpb41oj3M:&tbnh=101&tbnw=135&prev=/images%3Fq%3Depiphone%2Bheadstock%2Bpic%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den It looks to be mid to late 80's one of the first to be produced in Korea, with japanese parts (gohto etc) Thanks to the people who responded positively and your right no matter where it was made as long as it sounds cool (and plays sweet) who cares! Lastly, if anyone does know the age of the guitar or has any other info please respond Cheers dudes!
StunOperator
It seems like every time I see one of those old Korean customs it's an '89 so I'm going to say '89.

[/quote'] Don't let this get you down, please stick around and praise god that these people don't have a "Big Red Button" beside their bed otherwise we'd all be in Doo Doo!! The people that shout fake obviously don't know all of the Epiphone range (not saying I do either) however we've had our discrepancies before whereby "they" instantly shout fake at the first hurdle, think of it as a game of SNAP who can be first in and discredit your guitar. There are instances of change in production that cause these discrepancies and not everyone is aware of what is happening, I have a Black Beauty that falls under this category, Some come with Gold pots, others black, some come with "Les Paul Custom" (mine) others "Black Beauty"on the TRC all are variants on the theme of the Black Beauty. Its a bit like a car production line, not all cars are the same now are they?? Its just that that mentality has not yet crossed over to guitars, so please don't "fret" (Sorry) about it and stick around. Oh! and perhaps you can post how she sounds on the amp. Enjoy your acquisition.:D/

However the MIJ Epiphone in the link looks distinctly fake to me. If I'm not mistaken it should exactly be like the Gibson headstock.
