zelig504
How much does the Epiphone Les Paul Standard weigh? I know the Gibson LP weighs about 8 pounds and was wondering if they were similar in that respect. Thanks, Zelig
sexygibson
Because of the various woods that Epi uses you will find that the weight varies. The last Chinese built Epi L.P. that had was the heaviest Les Paul that I have ever owned, tipping the scales at over 11 pounds.
TWANG
my studio is heavy, too.. a little over 10lbs on the bathroom scale. TWANG
zelig504
That feels right since my Epi LP Standard feels so much heavier than my Fender Strat. I read that Gibson started doing some sort of thing where they leave hollow spots in the body to reduce the weight. I guess that means Epiphone doesn't do that, for good or bad... sexygibson
I have a '94 Gibson L.P. Studio Lite that is much lighter than my Studio V.M. More along the lines of the Epi Ultras weight. I can play it much longer than my V.M.
dcooper830
The weight varies with all Gibson and Epiphone Les Pauls. You never know until you pick one up. You can't say "Gibsons weigh 8 pounds." Cause it's not true for all of them.
Dave
If you read the advertisements a for the new line of Gibson LPs, they are all weight relieved (and Plek'ed). The advertisements state that the weight relief holes contribute to more tone and sustain. I wonder if the weight relief addition is a mod in manufacturing to balance the weight of different sources of mahogany due to constrained availability and varied wood origins these days.
