RenegadeMaster Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Hello everyone, I finally got the fake guitars from jarlonline/mzonline refunded and now I am purchasing a real Epiphone Les Paul Custom Ebony from anywhere basically, I live in the North East of England and one has been very hard to locate locally, there is an alpine white one and a wine red one in the two different music stores in my local town but I want an ebony one, there is an Epiphone Black Beauty in a large retail music centre a few miles away from here for £450 but I am looking for the normal 2 humbucker version rather then the three humbucker version so basically I'm left with the internet, and I was wondering what people think are better out of GAK or Thomann, probably very similar, but just your thoughts please :) Thanks
LHC- Jr. Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Hi, I've never dealt with GAK, but my experience with Thomann has been very positive. I can personally attest to the fact that they honor their 3 year store warranty, because they once gave me a new guitar 2 years after I had made my purchase. I would definitely buy from Thomann again.
wrighty3693 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 The Alpine White one is awesome such a lovely guitar so buy it looks much nice than the ebony one. Wrighty2012
JohnMcClane5000 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Go Thoman... they love what they do... No fooling around..
RenegadeMaster Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 Thanks for the replys so far :D Getting the Alpine White is definitely not an option As I am the man in the black :P
ralphtown Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Well I got one of my Epis from GAK. Good service and good price. But the set up is as per factory. RALPH
ant7629 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I would go with Thomann. I have order two guitars from there...Epiphone Customs to be precise! The customer service is very impressive. Within 5 seconds I go the confirmation email. A few hours later, I got another email AND a txt message saying that the order had been dispatched, with tracking number. Two days later the guitar arrived, and was very well packed. We had to send one back because it had some slight manufacturing defects on it. I emailed Thomann to tell them, and they sent me the number of the courier so they could pick it up. Once they had the return, they sent me another guitar, all within a week! Its just a shame that the pound isn't as strong as I think I paid £300 for mine, but I still think you are getting a good deal form them. Good luck
wrighty3693 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 If your in black the apine white one will make you look awesome with the contrast and you other guitarist wont stand out think rock and roll not blues.
Guest alanhindle Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I have ordered cheaper items from Thomann in the past, including a £30 half scale LH strat for my son to play with. I haven't had any problems with the goods or delivery but I've never ordered an expensive guitar from them. I have heard that you need to make sure that whatever you order shows as 'in stock', indicated by three green counters on the website, otherwise you could be waiting a while. I couldn't see any black or white customs on their website when I just checked, bar a left handed in black. Another thing I would worry about is ordering from cold central Europe at this time of year in case sudden temperature changes affect the finish. If the price was right I'd use them but, as has been said above, the exchange rate is dire at the moment. Here are a few other sites which have been going a good while: http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/Guitars/Electric_Guitars/Electric/sc1437/p1835.aspx (I bought a Peavey 5W Valve King combo from them recently and the mail order service was good; prompt delivery) http://www.andertons.co.uk/acatalog/info_ENCEBGH1.html http://www.coda-music.com/product_info.php?products_id=157 http://www.imuso.co.uk/ProductDetail.asp?StockCode=EG00024 (Bought my Wildkat mail order from these guys. The chap I phoned was very helpful with the delivery arrangements; prompt delivery also) NB. Whenever I order online/mail order I always phone up first to confirm delivery charges, check stocks and to make sure I'll be getting boxed up, non display goods. Cheers Alan
RenegadeMaster Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 Thank you for the advice Alan :-
alfsboy Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Foolish person, why feed the Hun . Buy from GAK .they are British and you can knock on their door to complain if they did give you poor service .Thomman may not be here tomorrow .Who knows. You may even get a discount if you ask for it as you are buying local and patriotic .
Guest alanhindle Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Thank you for the advice Alan Any time. I would love a black Epi LP custom myself. Another thought...presumably you've looked at guitarguitar in Newcastle and they didn't have one. However' date=' their website says they have 3 black customs. OK, they may be in either the Edinburgh or Glasgow stores but at least there is a local branch for you to deal with if there are any problems. Free shipping too. They may even do an inter-store transfer so you can try before you buy. http://guitarguitar.co.uk/electric_guitars_detail.asp?stock=04041501591818 Now go get one, tell us all about it and make me jealous! Alan
Hiberna Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 thomman are cheap on delivery but really really expensive hardware.
caulkhead Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I've had lots of stuff from GAK - PA gear, mikes, leads, recording equipment etc always been top notch. Also had guitars from Imuso and they have been great too.
