zookroo1
Hi everybody. I've been reading and looking around for a while and there's some great info to be had here. I'd like to pick up a Sheraton II for mainly blues type tones. I've noticed that things have changed a little bit over the years and manufacturing plants are different now. Is there a period that the Sheraton was considered to be in it's prime (when talking about the more modern guitars)? I particularly like the sunburst finish. What year did they change to the lighter coloring? I like the older, darker finish in pictures but I haven't seen it in person. Anything else to consider when looking at used Sheratons? (I haven't seen any used locally, so I've been looking online.) Thanks for any info regarding these guitars!
TWANG
I think it's generally agreed the Korean sheratons have a bit more going for them than the newest ones.. I also think the early 90s models had that dark sunburst. TWANG

sexygibson
Twang said it best in that you should stick to the Korean built models. As far as playability and build you will be hard pressed to find a bad one.
zookroo1
Thanks for the replies. Can you tell me the year the Sheraton was last made in Korea? I can't seem to find a timeline of where they were manufactured. I saw somewhere that they moved to China in 2002, but were they built in Japan in between Korea and China? Thanks! vomer
Don't know dates for certain, but my Korean Sheraton is 2004. There are also different factories involved in Korean production, details like the size of the bridge may be of interest to you if you intend upgrades. Many previous threads here about that. Hard to find these days. With the high-end Epiphones gone now, you have to shoot for an Elitist Casino if you want immaculate quality.
JefferySmith
If you cannot find a used one, they've got this at sweetwater.
