brianh
Well it's official. My Epi Genesis buying jag has infected a friend of mine and he just snagged a beaut on eBay. It's a Custom (not a Deluxe), and the necks been nicely stripped but otherwise it's mint and includes a rare original case: I've also updated the Wikipedia entry for these guitars to correctly identify the Standard, Custom and Deluxe. I guess this makes me the resident Genesis expert? Would you like a piece of candy little girl?
mgrmatt
Brianh, How does the Genesis play? It looks like it would be really good for solos since all of the frets are so easy to get to. mgm
Gashole
Are they pretty light? Comparable to an SG or maybe Tele?
brianh
1) Nope not me, I'm taking a (Wildkat/Casino) savings break. 2) They play like a dream - DeMarzios, 22 frets, long neck, 6 pickup combos, sustain that goes on forever. 3) Yes very light - about like a solid mahogany anvil would feel. Gashole
...3) Yes very light - about like a solid mahogany anvil would feel. LMAO So I guess, *not* too light? LOL The cut aways are so *severe* (that's not exactly the right word) it makes it look like a smaller, lighter axe I guess than it is. Mahogony anvils aren't noted for their feather like properties! Lord Summerisle
Are they pretty light? Comparable to an SG...? Something just occured to me: Looks like Yamaha ripped off the SG in the early '70s, and then Epiphone borrowed back from Yamaha!
sexygibson
That is a beautiful Genesis. I have never had the pleasure of owning one but would jump on one in a minute for the right price.

brianh
Those Yamaha SGs are very expensive collectors items now. We turned our nose up at those "cheap" Japanese axes in the 70s. We were young and dumb, should've bought every one we could afford. They were and are incredibly well built and fantastic playing and sounding guitars
