The one that always makes me go WOW, even though its simple, is The Black Crowes "Remedy".........just hearing the intro/opening, you KNOW theres a really jamming tune about to play.

Sidenote: their new CD "Warpaint" isn't as bad as i'd origionally thought........4 or 5 of the tunes have really "grown" on me.

(I GOTTA get a youtube account soon)

Edit: BTW In the early 90's, they DID save "Southern Rock" !!!!!!!! Otherwise, it would have been The B-52's & REM.

I don't know that they're the greatest, but they surely are among the most instantly recognizable...

They're not my fave band by any means but I can't think of a better intro than this right now:

Funny you mentioned that band' date=' Alan. I'd also be tempted to pick one of their songs for this thread, but I'd have gone with their early hit:

Status Quo get a bad rap, in my opinion. Yes, they're never going to be musical virtuosos, but some punk bands have been labeled geniuses for using fewer chords and exhibiting far shabbier musicianship. It's as though the watching world somehow wanted Status Quo to jump on the prog rock thing in the '70s, and then felt cheated when they just stuck to 12 bar power-chord riffs instead...
