Oneill95
Does anyone no how I can get the proper sound of a guitar onto a computer. I don't mean just using a microphone. I have an effects unit that goes from my guitar to it through a normal guitar lead, then a universal plug (I don't know what it's called but the one that fits to most computers and iPods) into my laptop. That system didn't work. Any suggestion's?

Audacity is decent....and free....I have a multi-fx unit also, plugs into a USB port, and it interfaces with Audacity just fine (there's a learning curve involved in the software, and lag that must be corrected for, but ... it's free[cool] )

I go into a LIne 6 PODxt with the guitar. Line 6 have something called a MONKEY to allow downloading of drivers/tone files and updating the POD. I use some free s/w that you can download like KRISTAL AUDIO ENGINE. Here is the info on it. http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/ It is free for personal use AFAIK. and once you set it up you can operate it like a virtual 16 channel recording console, complete with delay, eq and master faders. It will work on the minimum ram that comes with your computer, but you will experience some minimal delays while recording in ASIO. However, it does take some getting used to and experimenting, and the complexity may not be everyone's cup of tea..but it seems to work quite well with my setup.
