morty
hey i am thinking of buying a ES-339, but it says "The top, back and sides of the Custom Shop ES-339 are crafted with the same pressed-arch, laminated-maple " are all hollow body guitars have laminated wood, and will they stop producing this guitar, like some models my 200th post! Riffster
Most hollow bodies have the laminated wood construction process. Gibson Byrdlands don't they are carved and that comes at a price, just look at their prices. The ES339 seems to be a successful model, I doubt they will discontinue it. ksdaddy
There may have been some very early ES-150 or ES-100 models in the 1930s that were solid wood, I don't know, but as far as I know every Gibson ES series from the 1940s to now has been laminated maple. BigKahune
... are all hollow body guitars have laminated wood, and will they stop producing this guitar, like some models ... Not all hollow body guitars have laminated tops. There are some makers, including Gibson, that make solid carved top hollow body guitars - but they are expensive. As StiffHand said, Gibson won't stop production of the 339 in the near future.
jmjohnson
CS-336 is a carved solid-wood hollow body. Very similiar to 339 otherwise. The ES339 is very nice, has some special tone circuitry...had one picked out but the COA was off so I ended up with the 336 instead.
