goldsworthy
I was wondering what type of finish on a Gibson guitar is the most desirable for a buyer?. I realise tastes vary but on average what finish sells best?
Tman5293
It really depends on what model guitar it is. If it's Les Paul's, probably burst tops sell the best. If were talking about SG's, then the best selling is most likely heritage cherry. ES model guitars are usually gonna be either cherry or antique sunburst. chrisnorthw
For me on an LP Standard it has to be a Heritage Cherry Sunburst and on a LP Custom the ebony finish, if we're talking ES335 then it's got be Cherry.
L5Larry
"Standard" finishes are ALWAYS more desired in the "vintage" guitar market. Limited Editions and custom colors NEVER hold their value or reach the value of standard finishes. Sunburst is the most "valuable" and desirable finish on an electric guitar (solid body, archtop or thinline), as "natural" would be on a flattop acoustic. davidl
I'm a real fan of the flamed figured maple top. That being said, I also appreciate any guitar that feels good. Until I got my R0 (freakin awesome), my 32 year old MIJ LP repro had one of the prettiest tobacco maple finishes I've played. I guess my answer is a burst. Damn, I like them all.
