P90
Hey, Decided to join this forum after reading loads of threads as a non member! Bought myself a loverly Epiphone casino a few months ago and it is pretty obvious that the wiring is sub standard as well as the odd gold coloured pots. So I was thinking about changing it, but I cannot find anywhere in the UK that sells wiring kits for the Casino. Please excuse my ignorance, im new to all this. Cheers
Versatile
Hi and welcome to the forums I think lots of Epis are 'cheap' in the wiring and switching area A guitar technician may be your best bet for an upgrade I've never seen any wiring looms for sale V
brianh
So I was thinking about changing it, but I cannot find anywhere in the UK that sells wiring kits for the Casino. Welcome p90, what a great handle, I wish I'd thought of it. Mojotone makes excellent kits for semi-hollow body guitars and they will ship to Europe: http://www.mojotone.com/guitar-parts/Prewired-for-Gibson-Style-Guitars/ES-335-3-Way-Prewired-Assembly_2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsHQKtU3zk8

amx05462
why not just do it your self just photo the setup once you get it out the f hole then replace one part at a time . guitar wiring is simple .

P90
Oh im not worried about the complexity of the wiring, im an Electronics Engineer! Its more, reaming out the holes for the USA pots and other stupid stuff that scares me, basically I wouldn't like to ruin the guitar (its my baby) Heres my plans anyways A mojotone wiring kit Correct period type knobs Genuine Gibson p90's Bone/tusq nut Kluson tuners Im basically trying to create a nicer vintage sounding casino. brianh
Reaming the holes is no biggie. You can get a hand reamer at most hardware stores for $15 or order one from Amazon for $10: http://www.amazon.com/Empire-Level-27770-T-Handled-Tapered/dp/B001DZE5FW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1289349836&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/Cvf-Supply-HT022-B-Tapered-Reamer/dp/B000S5WQYA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1289349836&sr=8-2 Put some blue painter's tape over the hole to reduce the liklihood of chipping the finish, and take your time. Resist the temptation to use a drill, it's an instant recipe for chipping the finish.
amx05462
your speaking of the orange knobs. ive changed them out on two epis. for gold top hats. i know what you mean about the wiring . its crap. i changed out a 56 gold top epi. put in gibson pots and didnt have to ream anything. when you buy the knobs be sure to buy gibsons so they fit. i bought an aftermarket set for the other guitar and had to ream the knobs. you might want to try a 033 cap set on the p90s. also theres a guy on ebay selling old style wire . either cloth covered for fender or braided shielding wire for gibson. im doing up a wildkat right now. and am deciding if i want to rewire it. sofar accept for that one and my dot which im not rewiring as i like the sound ive rewired every epi that i own. trouble is they use cheap small pots and fine wiring. the gold top ... the tone controls didnt work so i re did it to 56 specs. have fun. Welcome to the forum p90, it's a great place to hang out, enjoy. amx05462: What's wrong with small pots, if they are quality pots (I know Epi's aren't), does size really matter, as long as they're the correct resistance and similar quality where does the difference lay? Sinner 13
elderly music supply and stew mac also sell good kits too, I am going to upgrade my 90's era 56 gold top RI soon as well. I got lucky because the previous owner packed a couple hand-wound Kent Armstrong's into it. As we all know 90's are noisy little buggers,so I am planning on shielding all the cavitys with copper tape as well. that and period correct brown cavity covers too. P90
I thought the American sized bushings were different to those that come standard on my casino?
