surfpup
Just received this in an email today. A good soldering primer for the novice and expert alike. http://mojoshout.com/1/soldering-101/

Artie Owl
Haha, Last night my fiancee's grandfather gave me a 1970's readers digest hardcover of the handyman's guide, it's awesome for a basic DIY'er like me, and there's a whole section on soldering, maybe I'll take some pics and upload them to here! Thanks Surfpup

ChanMan
Not downplaying the excellent information given here, but on one small point.... I was taught NOT to touch the components with the iron, only to place the iron close. Heat transfers quickly, and you can ruin the parts your soldering if they get too hot. I would certainly never touch an iron to a circuitboard for several seconds, as you WILL scorch the board and likely melt the surrounding traces as well. Just an opinion from someone in the electronics field since 1985. Things may have changed, but I have a perfect record and have never lost a solder joint (knock on wood!)
