tartanbeastie
I like to try new strings and usually go back to the old favorites, Martins on my acoustics and ernie balls on the electrics, (currently got D'addario on the SG, fender bullets on the telecsater) before i go buy more strings to try out, I'm thinking of going more mellow and warm as opposed to the bright sound i have just now. Can anyone advise or suggest some nice warm sounding strings to put on my electrics?

Versatile
They do feel different under the fingers...smooth and tactile And similar regarding picking D'Addario are very good An added bonus is they are great for slide/bottleneck playing V
L5Larry
You'll probably find flatwounds easier to play than roundwounds. D'Addario "Chromes" are pretty much the industry standard, and therefore easy to find (GC, etc) at a reasonable price.
tartanbeastie
just ordered a pack of chromes, i'll try them on the tele first. Has anyone tried the S.I.T strings? i dont believe the hype about them staying in tune but whats the quality of them? oh yeah I also spotted the neon strings while looking at other strings.. their pretty manky, i wouldnt put them on any of my guitars
tazzboy
Try Pure Nickle strings. I use GHS Strings because they are Roundwound like they were back in the old days. Unlike Hex core wound.
Jon S.
+1 on the D'Addario flats. I just put a set on my Tele( #036; ), and i'm in love!
vincentw
KOL frontman Caleb Followill uses flats on his Gibson ES-325 -- that's why his tone is kinda awful. But his tone works well with the other guitarist.
AnthemBassMan
-GHS Nickel Rockers or Ernie Ball Classic series are good choices if you don't want to go the flatwound route. L8R, Matt
Guest BentonC
Try Pure Nickle strings. I use GHS Strings because they are Roundwound like they were back in the old days. Unlike Hex core wound. +1 on the pure nickel. Most today are nickel plated steel, but the pure nickel won't be as bright. Great for a slightly "darker" tone. 69 Son
I really like DR Pure Blues, pure nickel wrap/ round core. Warmer tone and great feel. I have heard of strings breaking more often, I've never experienced it though but maybe not for the heavy-handed...
tartanbeastie
the flatwounds are on and i'm liking them. I did seriously consider the DR Pure Blues as well and i think they will be the next ones to try out
icantbuyafender
Ernie Ball Rock n' Roll Classics I mean c'mon... theyre Ernie Ball's, baby. Cant go wrong. The .10's I love bend like they are .09's, for like 5 or 6 bucks, you cant go wrong. GHS pure nickle, Dean Markley Vintage Reissue, and RotoSound strings are close 2nds. rml
i searched for ages to find something without the bright metallic twang of so many strings - gibson / daddario / ernie ball slinkys etc etc (some people like this metallic twang, and consider a string dead when it stops doing the metallic twang). i found that dr blues are the best, closely followed by dean markley blue steels. the blue steels take a little bit longer to bed in (a week, compared to a couple of days) but they last a lot longer. imo the dr blues sounded the best but wear faster with bending. cheers
vincentw
I found a great youtube video with Nashville ace Kenny Vaughn singin the praises of flatwounds on his tele.
