It is a GIbson Harp Guitar, either a model "U" or "R" They were quite popular back around the turn of the last century. Very common in mandolin orchestras and such. There are numerous websites devoted to this fine instrument. IF that is the natural sound on this cut, I can see why they were so popular. Sad they fell out of vogue.

The usual six strings over the fret board are played in the usual way. The harp strings are either allowed to vibrate in sympathy to the other 6 or than can be strummed at the player's digression.

One can get quite creative with one of these..

Page used one once in a while, but I must admit,

David Gilmour never used one that I seen... He may have, just never saw it..

Page also used one of those HUGE triangle thingy boppies, that was almost as tall as himself...

Not sure how many strings were on that though.. too lazy to look it up....

But those dyers were great sounding, and you would think more bands would use these kinds of instruments these days,

to be different and original... Let's face it, thru the years, the guitars have not changed all that much,

but the sounds some people can get from them is dwindling down though..... 2c.gif
