Serial Numbers

Hi.

I have the serial number for a J200 I am looking at on ebay. Is there any way I can check the credentials of the guitar?

I suspect this is a question for Gibson Customer Services. Can anyone help with a name or email address?

Thanks everyone.

All the details are here AJ.

Thanks Squire for the link.

What I'm looking to check is that the guitar which is for sale, is in fact the same model, colour and variant that left the factory. The J200 I'm looking at is a 2006 Elite with an unusual cherry sunburst finish like an old Hummingbird. Unusual and totally stunning. See one of my latest posts from my thread "Looking at a J200". You may have seen it on ebay too.

Ooops. When I saw your question, I thought you were joking around, so my answer was a joke too. I just figured a regular on the forum would know where the link for Customer Service is. Sorry! [blush]

I once had the same question about the authenticity of a Gibson and sent them a mail. This was their answer:

"Thank you for your interest in Gibson products.

For reasons of security and protection of serial number information we would like to see some photographic material of the guitar in question before tracking the serial number in our archive. Please send us some pictures of it in JPEG format (with a maximum size of 200KB per picture). We will then send you the manufacturing information we can find.

In details we need: one full front, full back, one of the front of the peghead and one of the back where the serial number is (make it so that the serial number is clearly visible).

Kind regards,

i work for a dealer. email me the serial number (and include the ebay link just to make it easy on me). i will talk to my guy inside Gibson... i will let you know.

from what i can tell on the ebay ad, the guitar looks legit though.

Cheers Modoc. The serial no is 01096033.

Yes looks legit although I'm surprised the back does not have more of a flamed finish in the maple. Could easily be the camera not picking it up.

I may have a tickle at this one. Auction ends in 7 hours.
