Bluegrass fun

I was just recalling these guys in a post in the Lounge.

Known as "The Darlings" on "Andy of Mayberry", The Dillards were a seminal bluegrass group that had a huge influence on the folk rock movement of the late 60s and 70s. Here's some tunes they played on the show -

Thanks, BK! As a bluegrass-picker from NC, you know I enjoyed that! Yes, The Darlings are legendary here. Just a taste of the musical world I'm playin' in now!!! Ya just gotta love that music! So much fun to play! Thanks for the videos, hadn't saw them in a long time!!!

And let's not forget that before the Dillards were on "The Andy Griffith Show," the show often featured a group that was known in real life as the "Country Boys," which featured the late great Clarence White and his brother, Roland White.

My best buddy from back home in Illinois is a HUGE "Andy Griffith Show" fan and goes to Mt. Airy every year and other conventions and has even gotten to meet and spend time with the Dillards. He says they're pretty cool. I'm trying to convince him to learn to play the banjo.

I've got all 8 seasons on DVD. Just bought the 50th anniversary boxed set with selected favorite episodes, a couple Dillards' musical episodes among them, as well as some other Griffith appearances over the years. It also includes the Danny Thomas, "Make Room for Daddy" pilot episode of The Andy Griffith show "Danny Meets Andy Griffith" and the "Return to Mayberry" MFTV move. I think the Country Boys only appeared once in, Mayberry on Record. The Darlings (Dillards + Charlene, Briscoe and Dud) appeared in 6 episodes plus the MFTV movie.

http://www.tagsrwc.com/cgi-bin/crumpbb/YaBB.pl is a great site devoted to the discussion of TAGS. The music of Mayberry is a much discussed subject.

"There Is A Time" is one of my favorites. That 'un always makes me cry. [crying]

More sadly, we lost Mitch Jayne, the bass player, last fall. [crying]

It is primarily because of TAGS, I play guitar today.
