Guest knorretje Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 hi there yesterday my neigtbour came to me with this guitar. he says it is an old epi casino made in the 70s in japan. the guitar doesn't have a serial, but following the internet this is normal for an old japanse epi. my question, what type of epi is this? in my opinion the tailpiece/tremolo is not original. i have te chance to buy it for 120 euros, good deal? or not? thx
jfine Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 That's real early Japanese production from the early-mid-'70's. I don't think they called it a Casino, though--maybe a Riviera; it's been decades since I've seen an Epi catalog from that era. It's typical of Japanese hollowbodies from that era--I've seen those with several different brand names on them. They're not much like the '60's USA-made Epiphones, or the modern Asian-made ones either. That's a pretty cheap guitar--I don't know what 120 euros is in US dollars, but I hope it's not very much! The tailpiece is original, by the way, but the control knobs aren't.
brianh Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Check the epi wiki for EA-250. Low budget bolt-neck early Japanese model notorious for neck pocket issues.
cunningham26 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Yep Brianh has got it- EA-250 bolt on. If you play it and like it, 120 euro isn't that bad, but it's definitely it's own animal and doesnt come close to a casino.
RobinTheHood Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Altough pretty much the same as the EA-250, I believe that is the 5102 because of the rosewood bridge base. http://www.epiphonewiki.com/index.php?title=EA-Series
