JKK
Hey Today I got my Epiphone J-45 come through the door. Lovely guitar. I got the Cherry finish with Chrome Grover tuners. I was looking at the serial number. Can anyone confirm I have this correct. SI for Samick Indonesia 06 for 2006 11 for November 0648 for production number I don't see many reviews for this guitar either, was it not popular? zombywoof
Look at it this way - I believe the guitar has a 1.725 nut and does not have the ADJ bridge . Both of these, while not accurate for a '63 Gibson, are good things.
JKK
The nut seems to be the same size as my EJ-200. Which I believe to be 1.68".

LPDEN
Looks like a nice guitar! How does it feel and sound? These appear to be the basic specs: Features Round Shoulder Dreadnought body Solid spruce top Mahogany body Set mahogany neck Rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays 20 frets, 14 clear Stylized white pickguard Rosewood bridge Chrome hardware 24-3/4" scale 1.72" nut width
diverden
Apparently there have been several different model J-45's over the years. Mine is labeled "Custom Shop" Ltd. Ed. 1963 J-45 V/S. Picked mine up a local shop second hand. It is in great shape. It appears that the saddle and nut have been replaced with bone. The truss rod cover on mine is plain. Also, probably a replacement. This guitar is left in open G for my Stones acoustic songs. Plays and sounds great.
mgrasso
I have seen a lot of these recently listed on e-bay. The majority of them are from the same year, either 06 or 07. A fair amount are labeled Used or 2nds. I also noticed the new blue ones. So I guess my question is, how is it? How does it play and sound. I see them going for about $299. Worth the expenditure? JKK
The strings were dead when I first played it. The setup is perfect out of the box. No rattling or vibrating. I've changed the strings to J200 11-52. Now it plays lovely. At first I was liking it but thought its good but not better than my EJ200. Now that I've been playing it more and more it's becoming my favourite. It does in deed have a 1.72" nut, I originally thought it was the same as the EJ200. The finish is perfect! Grover tuners are great! I went out and got a Epi hard case for it. I'm from the UK so this guitar seems pretty rare. I've seen a few in the states on eBay, they seem to come with the button tuners though. I think when Epi added the Grovers is when the price went up. I'm not sure if anything else was tweeked. The only thing I'd say is if you get an Indonesian one then it should be cool, but I've seen some Chinese ones on eBay and from other Chinese made Epi's I've played and examined, I wouldn't bother. diverden
As for sound. There was a used Gibson Hummingbird hanging right next to the J-45 in my friends shop. I sat and played both for a half hour. I forget what he was asking for the Hummingbird, but it definitely didn't justify the difference in price. This J-45 sounds great. Not sure how much difference the bone bridge and nut make. But for $300 it makes a great "Wild Horse" guitar. The fit and finish are very nice as well. I can't find any flaws, and it is not marked as second. It was built in 2006. telepbrman
I know that the Epi web page says the scale is 24 3/4, but those of you with the Chorme Grover Keys, please measure the scale length and tell me if she is short scale or long scale...thanks, dy. I'd be interested to know as well if it truly has a 24 3/4 scale length. I see many of them on eBay.
