Casino Inspired By body finish question

Hi, new here but not to Epiphones.

Bought a new Epi "Inspired By" Casino under two years ago, it's the Sunburst model.

Question is does anyone know whether they are finished in Poly or Nitro. When I bought it the guy in the shop without being asked told me it was nitro finish

but I had my doubts due the the price of the guitar.

However it does have a stickyness and moreover a smell that is quite strong when I've been playing it for a while, as in it warms up.

I'm not bothered what the finish is as I really love this guitar anyway but would still like to hear your learned views

Almost all modern Epiphones are poly except the 1965 Revolution Casinos and a very few others. Even the Elitist Casinos are poly.

I have an IBJL Casino and it's definitely poly - the guy at the shop was misinformed.

Thanks Brian.

Perhaps now I can stop worrying about leaving it standing on a rubber cushioned guitar stand.

Still can't work out that obvious but not unpleasant smell, not had it on any other guitars ever, poly or nitro. To me it's all part of the Casino's

character which I adore.

Oh yes and I almost forgot to welcome myself here.....ah hem

May not be the cause for the smell at all, but some cases REALLY stink like a chemical factory and they will stink up the open wood inside an acoustic or hollow body like the Casino. I have a Gator case that did that with an IB Texan Epi. Had to air out the case for about a month (don't recommend spraying anything on the fur however) and it ain't too bad now.

Love the Casino. It's still one of my Favs to play for sure. [thumbup]

A belated thanks Aster, hadn't considered the case possibly being the cause. Funnily enough I have a '98 Nat Ash Strat and the case for that smells of (don't laugh), custard. Maybe it's because there's no open wood with that Strat but it hasn't taken on that smell.

I'll give the Casino's case a good sniffing later to see :)

As posted previously, this smell becomes more apparent when I've been playing it, as the guitar warms up. Heyho

If you have good dust & humidity control I have had good luck with leaving my "gassing off" guitar on the Hercules stand and covered with a slit T-shirt to keep the dust off. I had a Tele, J-160E & a J45 Custom that all were so strong with fumes I thought I'd have to wear my paint respirator when I played them. Aired them out for about 30 days out of the case and now they just have a lighter Nitro smell.

For sure the Casino is Poly finish and that can burn off my eyebrows as well. Really, some of these dang cases are so "toxic" that they should be listed with the EPA. [biggrin]

My Texan still stinks from the case and that case has been aired out several times. By stink I mean "chemical" smell, not like skunk or real "stink" if you know what I mean. Haven't had any that smelled like custard but my nitro's smell kinda like a real sweet vanilla !
