waynereed
UPDATE: heal plate has the following . . . Hand crafted in Korea by Epiphone The Epiphone Company Nashville, Tennessee USA 0 17246 ~ Note: The "0" is stamped into a slightly etched rectangle. The 17246 is on a white sticker. ~ I have a pristine Firebird. The head stock has a gold painted Gibson logo. The heal plate on the back says Made by The Epiphone Company of Tennessee, made in Korea. On the back of the headstock is stamped "USED". No other markings or numbers. I'm trying to find out at least approximately when it was made. And approximately when. I did a lot of Net searching. This does not look like the cheapie Firebirds selling on ebay for $400. It's a rich looking sunburst. Gold hardware. Looks and sounds great. Plays great as well. Heavy as Hell! LOL Any ideas or comments would be much appreciated! Thanks, Wayne Reed thenettrainer@yahoo.com
Dynadude
The "Used" stamp means it's a factory second, and has no warranty. I have no idea how to date it.
RobinS
Your guitar was made at the Kalamazoo Plant (Gibson), USA in the Year(s): 1960 That´s what the serial number prog spit out for your Epiphone (but then why Korea?)
MReynolds
Wayne here's the best I could find: https://store.bluebookinc.com/info/PDF/EGuitar/ElectricSerialization.pdf The above site was recommended by Gibson/Epiphone. http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Support/FAQs/# Look under "how can I date/ID my instrument by serial number" I didn't see anything close to the serial number you gave. Your best bet would be to email Gibson with the information and probably pictures of the instrument.
sangandongo
RobinS - Clearly that's just stupid and incorrect: Epiphone was bought by Gibson in '57, for starters. They didn't start "copying" Gibsons until 1980. Second, and more importantly, Firebirds were first introduced by Gibson in 1963.
bonzoboy
It sounds to me like it may be a factory second of an Epi Custom Shop'06 Firebird they were of exceptional build quality and the sunburst was quite well done,I have one and that would be my guess. pohatu771
Because it's a second, it's impossible to date. The sticker serial number doesn't have any dating method in it. As for the guitar, it's not a Gibson. It's an Epiphone, and it sounds like it has a bolt-on neck.
NeoConMan
Your guitar was made at the Kalamazoo Plant (Gibson)' date=' USA in 1960 [/quote']With a bolt on neck? Wayne, hate to break this to you... You know the modest values given for Epiphone guitars? If it has a bolt-on neck, cut that in half. If it looks good, plays good and makes you happy, then don't worry about it. As far as build info, I'm really at a loss with Epiphones. Sorry.
