Twang Gang
How you dress really can have quite an effect on how your employer and the audience react to you. I generally wear slacks and always a shirt with a collar. If it's a 4th of July outdoor and it's really hot - maybe a golf shirt instead, but still has a collar. No T-shirts. Comfortable shoes with good traction, helpful when moving equipment, and don't want to be sliding off a beer soaked stage. Did get into a period where the band wore suits. Just a 60's, 70's 80's rock cover band, but the suits made an impression on people - made us stand out from the usual blue jeans and tee shirt clad bands and sometimes even sort of subordinated the bar owners a little. If you are in a regular working band, try it one night and you will be amazed at how differently people treat you.
