  1. Can't stand streaming services, or the radio. I want to hear, what I want to hear, and not what song a format wants me to hear. I always have CD's in the car in rotation.
  2. Why couldn't I have an unlimited trust fund. Now I hate my parents.
  3. I just looked at the exchange rate, and if the one in Japan is real, it is cheaper than SW by 2k. Not sure what shipping would be. The 4 on SW are $4299. 328,000 Yen = $2184 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/J45KebMo12VS--gibson-acoustic-keb-mo-3.0-12-fret-j-45-acoustic-electric-guitar-vintage-sunburst?serial=23483012 If I were you I would buy all of them at that price that Japan has, and under cut SW on Reverb by $500 or so, and stick it to the man.
  4. I wonder if Gibson or Martin have 5 figure guitars for sale? Just looked yep they do. https://www.gibson.com/en-US/Electric-Guitar/CUSWKV101/Lemon-Burst https://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/D-42-Special.html?cgid=guitars A Preston Thompson is one of the most amazing guitars I ever played.
  5. Almost anyone can afford one if you save long enough. Even what is seen as an affordable brand like Epi, but no guitar is necessary for survival. That is the blurb of the definition YOU posted, is it not? You can't wear it, eat it or drink it, make shelter with it, it does not make you sleep better. It is a tool for a working musician. If your not one you don't NEED it. Hence a LUXURY.
  6. I don't see guitars mentioned or cars. What are the 5 survival needs for humans? According to psychologist Abraham Maslow, human beings' physiological needs for food, water, clothing, shelter, and sleep must be satisfied in order for them to address more complex needs like mental and physical health, relationships, sobriety, long-term housing, and employment.
  7. But if you are not a gigging musician you do not NEED a guitar, and it is not essential to your survival. you just WANT it. Yes of course if you are going to make music for fun you need some sort of instrument unless you are the vocalist. I think the key words in the definition is "essential for survival". Now lets take the CAR. Do we need cars. Of course. Most in the USA drive to work. But do you need a Ferrari to get to work, or will a Honda Civic get you there all the same?
  8. Both Velcro pieces may be stuck together on the "Black Box" when the guitar got bumped around during shipping. There should be at least some sign of sticky residue where it was first placed in the guitar.
  9. If this is the definition YOU are going by: I gotta at least share the actual definition a “luxury” is anything that is not essential to one’s survival, but “nice to have.” How is a guitar essential for survival? And by the definition you posted it certainly is a luxury to many. The only people that truly need guitars are people who make a living using one. Most of us here are bedroom rock stars, including myself.
  10. When ever I sold a guitar I only listed the year it was made, No over ever asked what day the guitar was stamped. And that is all, it got stamped that day. The guitar was not finished that day and shipped out, it had more stations to go to before shipping.
  11. Not so fast young Padawan. Here is how Gibson pulled another fast one for a few years and changed it up to confuse again. If he has a guitar built in 2000. It should follow the first and fifth number being the year again. But with Gibson its anyone's guess. Gibson USA 2014 - Mid 2019 These serial numbers cannot be dated to a specific day of the year. The new model year typically launches in the fall as the current model year winds down. It is not uncommon for a new model year model to be produced during the previous model year (example – a 2015 model may have been built in late 2014). The pattern is as follows: YYRRRRRRR YY is the model year RRRRRRR is the number in product for the model year (starts at 0000001)
  12. What about a portable USB battery? Why does it HAVE to charge from a laptop?
  13. How do you guys listen to music. I listen to an album from start to finish. and not just one song.
  14. Those guys are strange dudes. I have a live concert video of them at The Zoo. Yoshimi, Soft Bulletin, and At War are killer albums. I read or heard they did a lot of LSD.
  15. I've talked to Lindy a time or two. That is how you do it. The top guy who owns the company gets on the phone with the common man. That is customer service.
  16. I think according the this book lots of people have read called the Bible, doesn't it state Lucifer was booked out of Heaven? Or is the Bible just a book with lots of scary stories in it?
  17. So the freezer was not a good idea?
  18. Watched a doc on the making of the We Are The World song. Lionel and Quincy had to heard a lot of cats in the studio that day. Waylon Jennings walked out after Stevie Wonder suggested they sing a few words in Swahili. The point was brought up in doc that they were doing this for Ethiopia, which Swahili is not their language. Sheila E was pissed cause all she though they wanted her there for was to try to get Prince to come in and sing. She was dating Prince a the time. If you have ever heard the song there is no Prince on it. It was done right after the AMA Awards and that is why that many people are in the same area at the same time.
  19. You most certainly did. And I quote you: "All Gibson's are made in U.S.A. with American hands and tools." Look 6 post up to what you typed. Or did you mean to say: "All Gibson's are made in U.S.A. with American hands and tools from where they are made."
  20. I would swear if I looked up who makes a PLEK machine (and every guitar gets a go through that machine) it would come up its made in Germany, now that is not really an American made thing now is it? Look at the names on the Plek team. Not really any Smith's or Jones's there now are there? And go down to the bottom of the web page below and see where you would call for service or help. Deutschland aka Germany. https://plek.com/about-plek/team/
  21. Ya know who doesn't do it? Also they have a Mod Shop with really expensive scratch and dent guitars.
  22. It doesn't matter what he believes. Some think the Earth is flat, but its not. It (a guitar and not the Earth) has some stuff cut out by a CNC Machine, and that is a F A CT. Most if not all of us here know that. Pull up some vids of Gibson tours and stuff they are doing in the plant, see if there are any big machines in there to do man's/woman's work. What about the PLEK machine is that doing it by hand? Here is this from the net. It could be a lie perpetrated by Martin. When did Gibson switch to CNC? I once read an article in a technical publication called Design News which said that Gibson started using a CNC router in the late 1980s which would jibe with what you recall Rar saying. The article also noted that Gibson has also been using a CNC machine for the past eight or so years.
  23. Go with Lindy Fralin's - You will be glad you did.
  24. Figured is how the wood looks. Gloss is the shine on the finish, and not a model type. Its a ES-339.
  25. What is a luxury to some is a drop in the bucket for others. Some can buy 10k guitars without blinking an eye. Hot dogs are relatively cheap, but to someone who is homeless with no money they just might be a luxury.
