  1. Have you decoded the serial #, or maybe the final inspection checklist date so see just exactly how fresh this guitar is? Also- it would be good to know relative humidity. Or, if you were in the southwestern US. Or high altitude. You should be ok with that- just watch humidity levels for a while, esp. with such a new lacquer finish. You can have a look inside the guitar with a UV light/lamp. . . it'll give you some information. . . maybe too much information. ; ).
  2. The phrase has probably been in use as long as horses have been used to do work for people: https://www.dictionary.com/browse/workhorse “Swiss Army knife”, or “Jack of all trades”
  3. A favorite pic from a Bozeman tour posted on YouTube a few years back:
  4. Very nice playing of the Beatles tune, but the bold move of tackling Kashmir will have you crack a smile:
  5. Much safer than 5 hours in a room heated with a wood stove. Guitar Center is known for a very gracious (and tempting) return policy, but they're also known for guitars on the rack with some pretty nasty strings. 'Was in one where the hygrometer on the humidifier read somewhere in the upper 60's. It was very stuffy in the small high end room. If that was the case for you, I suppose the other guitars would also be suffering the same fate (?).
  6. Brain fade on my part- 'was actually wondering if the bridge pins had also been upgraded.
  7. Congrats on the incoming Hummingbird. Is that a slimmer body depth than the Standards? Combined with that barky spruce it's top has, it should project nicely. It also looks like the nut and saddle have been upgraded to bone, horn, or ? ? ? Pictured in a gig bag. . . were these to have a hard case ? : https://www.gibson.com/en-US/Acoustic-Guitar/ACC4YT544/Antique-Natural
  8. Put me down for one of those rings. I found the '057 Cherryburst Hummingbird on Kijiji. Looks totally legit. Maybe if you put a link to the other 2019 HB you might feel better about it being genuine.
  9. And I've been a long time looking for a guitar that has great bass note clarity. Been through lots of guitars, and the J-185 is one of the best at it.
  10. uh-oh. I thought you'd already played the guitar. Hopefully, you've got some familiarity with maple guitars, and have an idea of what to expect. The slinky comfort of the J-185 shape is well known, and the vibe/looks are apparent, but aside from being a fine strong rhythm strummer, they're can be a challenge if you want to get some low tone out of them, but it can be done.
  11. That’s the case. And that’s a good sign. So, it literally could be a custom True Vintage, what with the special ’burst, abalone rosette, and firestripe guard. And signed. So far, so good.
  12. Does the label actually say “TV Edition” ? My ‘07 185 was spec’ed as a True Vintage for the Japanese market, with a serial close to yours, with no mention of True Vintage. My ‘07 J-45 True Vintage also did not have mention of TV on it’s label, in this first year of the True Vintage line. One thing that they all did have was the uber-heavy light brown “Cali girl“ case with the pink lining. they also had no factory onboard electronics.
  13. Thanks. That makes sense. Well, at least I had fun looking at other models, including Epiphone, to see what guitar that p/g design went to. Maybe the Bird guard was modified from Hartford Snyder's design.
  14. That is interesting. Tons of history there. It looked as if there were a few plates made for the Hummingbird, but the ones shown in metal did not have the likeness of a hummingbird on them:
  15. Wow- and it is fun, too. . . At the end, they were laughing, maybe because they can't believe they got that on tape. With a little help from the person at the eq bringing out some real rumble in that Hummingbird.
  16. The Made2Measure option was something I was going to suggest, but you say you've already done that. So why the interest in an official Everly edition? Got a thing about having the official swag, or . . . ?
  17. . . . or just high. Second vintage guitar this week that you just popped over to Norman‘s to pick up on a whim? A helluva road trip from Cleveland
  18. Congrats on the natural Bird. One good thing about the satin finishes- they don't require as many coats as a gloss finish. . . usually resulting in a lighter guitar that lets the top breathe a little better. And the areas of contact from play wear are true evidence of the guitar actually getting played. Of course, we'd love to see and hopefully hear a little of your new bird. ; ) .
  19. Oh well, that's Craigslist. Here are some photos of the guitar from it's Reverb listing in the U.K. : https://reverb.com/item/70918363-gibson-j-50-1955-1960-natural?bk=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJqdGkiOiI3ZjZlODkxOC1kNjdiLTQ2MTMtODc4My05Yzg4ZjU0NTNhM2EiLCJpYXQiOjE2OTAyMzA5MDksInVzZXJfaWQiOiIiLCJzZXNzaW9uX2lkIjoiIiwiY29va2llX2lkIjoiNGFmNmUwNDAtMTQxMS00MWZhLWExZDEtMmUwYzM4MmMzMzU0IiwicHJvZHVjdF9pZCI6IjcwOTE4MzYzIiwic291cmNlIjoiTk9ORSJ9.pv1807loA9Olz7uRfUg-XkoXMFdvPd71lAuXmbzhNzQ
  20. So. . . getting back the OP, how often do you change the string on the back of your J-45 CC ?
  21. 'Was thinking the same thing- maybe a couple of points across the logo and end up with a reverse sunset burst logo! But then again, I'm reminded of what my D'Addario mini tuner did above the "s" and the "o" on the J-45 R:
  22. "Just curious" 😎- what sort of options were available to you regarding neck profile for your L-00 build through the Made2Measure program?
  23. Same here, but my Smeckspectations were higher on the deeper bodied (walnut) Jackson Browne model. In all of the ramblings in my previous post, I don't know if I emphasized that the Stage DeLuxe you were looking at, being deep-bodied, might not project as well as the J-45 models, and that the deeper body of the Stage-D might negate the ergonomics of the 12 fret design.
  24. ps- 'Woof mentioned the torrefied top stated in the seller's listing. But looking at the Gibson specs page included in his panel of included photos, it simply mentions it being an Adirondack top. If Gibson put a toasted top on there, they wouldn't be shy about mentioning it. Also- his stated nut width is a little off .
