  1. Bluesy that binding issue you stated as wavey, was that in the cutaway area? And um yes wood does have imperfections. You might not get that with a Chinese guitar as I would suspect they use a "photo flame" top, thus looks perfect. I have been in the Memphis plant and yes a lot is done by hand I truly question what some consider bad qcc imperfections, Yes wiggly pots, etc I can see as issues,
  2. Searcy is right.. very bad idea to put paint on a Nitro bodied guitar if anything use more nitro.. but you better learn about it's application and reaction first before doing anything. (maybe just leave the dent alone) http://www.stewmac.com/SiteSearch/?search=nitrocellulose%20lacquer
  3. well Daniel you don't say where you are in the country (or even which country you're in) the local Best Buy to me in Canada has some of the lowest grade guitars on the shelf. (Gibson included. I wouldn't even let my cat buy one, neck joints are that bad) and I see the higher end guitar's are only online and it states which music store is selling/shipping them for us here, Best Buy says guitar ships from Cosmo Music so Best Buy is sort of acting like Amazon in this case as a distributor. Cosmo is a pretty good music store up where too. so local in store.. junk looks B grade.. online, as much choice as any large shop.
  4. I wonder if any employee's at Gibson got raises (surely the marketing staff didn't with the 2015 mistakes) or electricity costs more, or insurance costs more or ; pass on the costs.
  5. he is claiming through that his "special active pickups" are adjusted too high to have the adjuster screws facing the bridge pickup. something doesn't sound right if your active pickup has to be adjusted that high you can't access the adjustment screws.
  6. if you are using an ABR-1 bridge and you turn the TOM around so the adjustment screws face the Stop Tail , the strings "crest" over the back of the ABR-1 down to the stop tail and their adjustment screws, those strings will get cut and snap in half when they get nicked with the ABR-1 TOM adjustment screws when the ABR-1 is setup with the intonation screws towards the stop tail. it makes no other hill of beans to have the intonation screws facing forward or backward other than the simple fact that your strings will break in half with an ABR-1 facing the rear. Nashville Bridges do not have this problem since their screws are lower in the TOM body.. (please see pictures posted in this thread) and the Nashville bridge is wider allowing a greater front to back movement allowing for a great range of intonation per string you're right you can't argue with an engineer..
  7. YesP94 and P100'sAre humbucker's in p90 size
  8. I had Joe Bonamassa sign my LP between the tuners on the back of the head stock (least touched part of the guitar) and I had him sign the truss rod cover. BTW Joe Bonamassa gives a "life time" warranty on his signatures. I heard him tell one person that had him sign the body of the guitar and mumble about it rubbing off. Joe's answer was: "if it ever rubs off or fades away, come back and see me and I'll resign it, it has a 'life time' warranty"
  9. If you're getting a 'ping' when tuning the guitar then you have a string binding somewhere. If your highly regarded 'mom-pop' shop tech can't fix a string binding issue then you should be taking it to a different tech in a different shop. last. The height of the frets make a really big difference in playing. Take your tuner, and fret say the A on the G string (3rd string, 2 fret) Just lightly press on the string to make the A and look what the tuner says. Now press really hard on the string and mash it down to the fret board, now play that A and look at the tuner, I'll bet a pitcher of beer your A is going to be really sharp in tune. Answer, don't mash your fingers to the fret board or have your frets lowered.
  10. There was hardly a reply by Henry on that forum anyways. It was created just after Gibson's flood and the plant was shutdown for a while, it was just briefly there for PR. As this subject was killed in your other post about it. I won't say any more about it here.
  11. It's not an In the Case or Out of the Case deal. At some point in time the case will 'normalize' to the room. Cases are not sarcophagus's in a pyramid. The case is only for protection and reduction of dust. now I have read on this forum from time to time that a guitar was not 'cured' long enough and the neck was weak. You'd have to take the guitar to an 'authorized' Gibson deal for a check out. but my guitars sit on the stands long too neglected for extended periods of time and sometimes they are a few cents sharp and other times a few cents flat. I think you want to bring it to a different guitar tech
  12. so in the first note you have, you said that 3 months after a setup by your guitar tech the guitar started going out of tune. I'll ask the simple question of: how many times in that 3 months have you changed your strings? if you play often then that would need for string replacement more often than someone that has their guitar sitting for long periods of time. maybe your guitar needs another adjustment due to humidity or lack there of
  13. If its paid for .. why sell it.. put it in the closet and it will stay nice and safe..when you get back to it (and you will) you'll have a good guitar to setup and go again. Try explaining to your wife why you need a $2000 guitar.. You'll regret it. just read the posts here.
  14. your PM mail box is full

  15. I recently took a book out of the library (I know… guitarist read???) It had an interview with Les Paul and he stated that he wanted the wrap over tail piece because of the way he palm muted the strings at that end. As you see Ted got his way not Les… The rest is now stuff legends are made of
  16. Its been done a long time ago ( http://vj.minuteboard.com/m/b/a/showtopic.html?topicid=1661&nr=19 ) and most recently talked about over at sewatt.com you have to not only make the baffel hole bigger but you also have to cut down the speaker basket (the metal frame of the speaker) a bit to make it fit. Best way is either find yourself an empty cab to to put the amp into or a lot of work (or just use an external speaker when more bottom end is needed)
  17. Key question is, his has 3 screws not the standard 2 screw TRC. can you post more pic's of the body?
