Bought one because I'm a big Oasis fan, liked the specification and that one of the authorised UK dealers was able to supply.
Made loads of initial enquiries, but did not realistically expect to be able to get one based on my experience last year with the J-150.

I know a lot of people are not keen on Oasis or their music, but I like them and have been following them since December 94'.

Have a few guitars which get regularly rotated - intention here is to play this one and treat it no differently. Unless my personal circumstances change, I will be keeping this for many years to come.

I do however unfortunately expect to see a number of these being listed on Reverb over the coming weeks at inflated prices.
Oasis still remain hugley popular (at least in the UK), so it will be interesting to see what happens in the resale market.

Only a few more days and you’ll know for sure what your intentions are…Most important thing is it arrives safely and mint..

So with a guitar that expensive, were any of you getting it no matter what it cost, did you have to save for it, are you richer than Bill Gates and can buy anything you want. I really what to know other than being a fan, how do YOU not ME justify/rationalize a 10k guitar? If I told my wife I'm using what is in our bank account to buy a 10k guitar, instead of making about 9 house payments and buying food and paying bill, the look and the lecture I would get would still be going on.

For me I wanted an original ES-355 TDSV, but each time I tried to acquire one, it was already sold, or they wouldn’t ship to my country. The last time I tried was earlier this year. One of the last 355TDSVs made in ‘97 was put in my local Kijiji classifieds. I recognized the guitar as it was sold to the seller from Willie’s Guitars (there’s a YouTube vid of the very guitar I inquired about to purchase). Unfortunately, the seller sold it already. So I was **** out of luck. I knew there would be a Noel Gallagher version of this very same style guitar, so I got it. I only wish it had the long guard as opposed to the short guard. I know Noel’s long guard 355 was the one that Liam destroyed, then some buyer fixed it and it went up for auction for some high price tag.

The neck I would say is slim tapered (kinda like close to blade). I guess this would be a “C” shape profile?

Sgt Pepper. If you are interested I know Alto Guitar Music has it listed (will be made available Aug 30, if someone did not already claim it):

Ok quick question/s. How many bought because of the model it is? How many bought because of Noel/Oasis? How many bought to flip? How many bought because you collect? How many will gig it? How many will make it a case Queen and play it rarely ever? How many will play it and use it like any other guitar you own?

I can say with certainty that I have the COA there are 200 pieces made. So, you’ll have to track down the 200 people throughout the world and ask them….If I were to guess, I’d say half to keep (whether it’d be in the closet, behind glass, or to play) and the other half to flip.

MSRP (in CAD) $12,600. So I’m guessing $9,999 USD like you originally guessed. I originally guessed $9,799 cos of the CAD exchange rate. But now with the rumors it makes sense to just mark it up to an even number $9,999 (essentially $10K) USD…

Congratulations man, cherish it! Jaw dropping! The cherry ES355 may just be the most perfect looking guitar ever built! What an instrument - hope it brings you many years of enjoyment buddy!

Thanks man. Plays like butter..Hoping those who are fans of this style 355 (with the Varitone) will have the opportunity one day to get one…

Glad to see extra info here! I swung by after spotting a Matsumoko Riviera in the background of a photo of Noel with the signature 355 worn so glad to hear it looks like it is coming!

I'm so excited! Been waiting for years for a Matsumoko reissue and many posts on here about it. Maybe Cesar from Gibson has been reading? 😜

I also found this screen grab from one of Cesar's videos on this rather spammy news article. I have been unable to find the original video maybe he deleted it.

Hoping the pickguard is more accurate and that awful truss rod cover gets fixed for the final Production models. Small details matter..

Dealers are saying it’s 200 so it seems unlikely it would be 100.

Spoke to a contact yesterday. They mentioned 100. Guess we’ll find out on Aug 30..Either way don’t matter, as long as you are lucky to have put a down payment and reserved it back in July, you should be OK.

Only seeing it now (thanks!). At first I thought that it was a blank pickguard, but it was just the lighting in the 1st video.

A bit disappointing as small details like this count.....unless they want to have slight variations to differentiate between the reissue and the originals.
It is instantly noticeable if you are familiar with the original early 80's Matsumoku models.

Yeah if that is the final production model..Very sad. Will definitely have to do some mods to the pickguard and truss rod for sure.

Yes, it is a reissue / replica of the early 80's Matsumoku / Japan made wine red Riviera which was his main guitar from 1995 to early 1996 (and as seen in the promotional music videos for Roll With It, Morning Glory, Champagne Supernova, Don't Look Back In Anger etc).

Have attached a picture of my original 1984 Riviera.

    Aldo,

You check out gueikian’s (Cesar (Gibson)) Instagram story? Looks like Cesar is showcasing both the NG 355 & NG Riviera. If the Riviera he is playing is in fact the final production model, the “E” on the pickguard will not be the same as your guitar, but will be a foiled sticker. Same shape, but not black and not engraved or printed onto the guard…

Is some guy trying to sell a guitar he doesn't even have yet? And price gouge the fuk out of you too?

He has the guitar. Reverb told him to take it down. Guess Gibson found out….Not sure if that’s a huge price gouge, as we don’t know what the MSRP is officially in USD..But I guess if like what we predicted, it’s roughly a $5K profit. If he can get his asking price.

looks like the post came down i cant find it anymore, but the resale market is lighting up same as the j200 🙄

    n9YR7H4.jpg

Still no word on the official USD MSRP. This seller obviously kicked it up $5K USD at least. We were speculating $9799 (based off the Canadian $12,599 price) or $9999 based from what others heard….This dude let the cat out of the bag way too early! Aug 30 is the official announcement.

Life is to short to play cheap guitars, and I won’t buy a guitar ever made in Communist China.

Definitely won’t play a guitar from China. But will respond back to this on a device made in China. Or will wear clothes from China. Am I right? LMFAO

I know less than nothing about Epi's except that they make outside the US and sometimes rarely Gibson does a USA Epi run of something. What is different between the standard Riviera and the NG ones. And what is this Supernova Epi? Was it just a cash grab with Noel's name one it. I have seen the one with the Union Jack on it and it looked cool, but to me its a guitar make in China or Korea or Indo.

Unless it’s the new USA Epiphones (Casinos, Frontiers, Texans) which cost pretty much the same or more than their Gibson counter parts (ES-330, Dove, J-45), all Epiphones are made over seas in China now I believe (but I think I’ve seen some made in Indonesia).

The Epiphone Supernova came out in the late ‘90s it’s basically the shape of his Riviera but the switch was moved to the upper bass horn (like a Les Paul). They came with 3 colors (Pelham Blue, Cheesy Union Jack paint job and Red) with an ugly pickguard with a print of Noel’s supposed signature on it. Noel never played these, and it was a total cash grab for the die hard Oasis fans I suppose. They retail I believe around $700 so not expensive at all.

The Union Jack Sheration which I believe is the one you are referring to that looked cool came out a few years back (believe 2016). It came with a case and is in no way associated with Noel or Oasis. This Epiphone Sheration was a commemorative tribute to the British Invasion of music to America. It is the closest looking Sheration to Noel’s Union Jack Sheration. In fact, I think it looks better cos the blue is a Royal Blue as opposed to Noel’s light blue on he’s custom painted one by his then wife.

As for the new NG Epiphone Riviera and how it compares to his original ‘83 Matsumoku Japanese one, there’s no comparison. The new re-issues will most likely be made in China and is priced cheaper due to parts and the fretboard is made of the cheaper Indian Laurel as opposed to Rosewood. It’s like comparing the standard Casino made in China vs the couple hundred dollar cheaper worn Casino’s….

with runs this small i imagine that there are enough music store employees to fill in the gaps between hedge fund investors. either way, the general public's chances are slim. it's naive to think someone's going to put a $10k guitar into the hands of a young upstart in the hopes that he'll bring back the guitar music of his idol Noel Thomas David Gallagher.

Supernovas can be had for under $1500. we'll see if they do a reissue of the riviera. I had an '82 for a little while (the wine burst that Bonehead plays) and it was alright. Played like any $600 matsumoku sheraton and I sold it to another oasis guy. I've got a '97 sheraton I bought because it looked like Noel's at Knebworth that's miles above the 80s riviera, in my value-less opinion.

Supernovas came out in the late ‘90s and we’re affordable. But let’s be honest, Noel never played “Supernovas”. He didn’t care for them, it was just to put his name on a crappy Epiphone product. As for Epiphone  releasing a NG Wine Red Riviera, that is coming out on Sept 20 and is already in my local guitar shop’s system. They retail for $1219 here in CAD, so in America it’ll be around $800-$900 (definitely less than $1000).

So, what's so special about this guitar?

Forget about Noel Gallagher’s name for a sec, when was the last time Gibson produced an ES-355 TDSV? Possibly 1997? That’s why it’s special.

I put my down payment on it today. I had all the information already, but they never provided a visual, so had to take the chance that it was gonna look like the one we all know….Can’t wait for my NG 355 as well….2 NGD next month hopefully.

Yeah, the sales assistant mentioned that "they have cheaped out a bit" when discussing this.

Only had visibility of the A4 spec sheet, but from memory it was essentially similar specs to the burgundy / royal tan Riviera released last year (but with stop bar tailpiece, full size Epi humbuckers, 80's style 'E' pickguard logo and headstock volute).

Visually it looked like the real thing, but what really made the originals IMO was (in addition to the Japanese craftsmanship) the Maxon MMK-61 pickups.

So this Noel Gallagher Riviera will look exactly like the one he used in the “Don’t Look Back In Anger” vid correct? I was shown the spec sheet as well, but no visual other than what was teased in the Mark Agnesi Instagram Story from earlier this year.

The Riviera? I only put down a deposit last week (26th July) once one of the retailers I had contacted previously got in contact after receiving confirmation from Gibson / Epiphone regarding pricing and allocations.  I had contacted various retailers beforehand to register my interest and get put on the list as this was first teased back in January, but it picked up a lot more traction in June.

I've no idea how limited or mass produced this will be, but it should be much easier to get one.
If you want one, you should be able to put down a deposit this week to secure a pre-order if you call / email a few retailers.

Don't have a copy of the A4 spec sheet, but from memory the fretboard material will be Indian Laurel and it comes with a case. Unfortunately I doubt it's made in Japan like the original.

The Indian Laurel is a bit of a letdown, considering the original was rosewood. But I have an Epiphone Worn Ebony Casino which has the same and it’s OK, but the price was below $500 USD. But again if you are charging $800-900 USD it should have rosewood.

Gibson sells to people with money, sometimes folks with lots of money.  Its ok.

The downside for Gibson though is Fender is so much more popular with the young crowd because of this. Lots of young guitarists and bands using Fenders more especially the offset type guitars (i.e JazzMasters, Jags, Duo Sonics etc)
