Yes, I have ‘bagged a biggie’..... a beauty!

I haven’t even got the Virtuoso polish to it yet.....just dusted with a shaving brush I use and rubbed with a cotton rag. I am surprised, to say the least. I might go wipe my car!

I looked up the model at Sweetwater - you can still buy them new, natural and shadetop, but they have really ‘gone out of fashion’. Probably a lot more options these days but when they came out, there were no other small body acoustics here!

And....I tuned it down and the air went out of it - the action lowered itself over the last few days!

    It can stay!

I've owned two WL-14's, and agree they are great guitars. Also owned an LA Guitar Sales custom OM-15 with the 1 3/4" nut,  but the WL-k is on a completely different level. It's tough to describe, but that guitar almost plays itself. It has a very big sound for such a small guitar despite it being strung with 11's. It's loud, incredibly touch sensitive, and probably one of the most fun guitar's I've played in a long time.

BTW, looks like your pictures are now visible (great photos, btw). What did you change to get them to show up?!

I put the photos in the Martin forum. I highlighted one, copied and pasted here! X3! But the normal method of pasting the Imgur link is not working on the Gibson forum currently.

I play with medium strings usually, so the WLK is out. I would like an all mahogany 00 one day....Martin, Waterloo, Maton. But for now the Guitar Fund is a bust!

I've also been having issues posting photos to this forum from Imgur lately. I don't think it's Imgur since the problem isnt happening on other message boards, just this Gibson message board.

Have you ever tried a Waterloo WL-k? Seems like it's made for what you do.

We probably have to stand on one foot and have our fingers crossed while posting photos.......😐

I have not tried a Waterloo WL-K but I am lucky to own 2 Waterloo WL-14s, one X braced, one ladder braced...and they are sensational guitars. But I can categorically state that a WL-K has never reached these shores  and we must order through dealer networks of recent times. (Same dealers that only get in dreads...still waiting to try the new LG2s, don’t think they are coming. Only been around for a year!)

The Martin site has a Custom Shop configurator....hope Gibson get one - hours of fun!

You put in all the specs you want and  you get a nice pic of it and a list of.....parts?

Boing, people keep saying you can pick different necks but it wouldn’t give me any choice. And 2 or 3 guitars I made looked pretty awful.......

The point here is that Martin make all their production guitars with the Modified Low Oval neck and except for a few models like my EC and CEO7, you need to go to the Custom Shop to get a Mod V neck on a guitar you want.

So, a 00 with Mod V......may as well get sinker mahogany back and sides with ancient sitka driftwood top with a dash of Lotto!

EZ solution. Jump to UMGF. Great pics there.

Did you mix up the imgur link?

Nope, pasted to the other forums with the same ‘copy’ activity from Imgur.

Now that JZ is here, you and CJB are partly to blame for the current GAS fever.......JZ with his 00-18 purchase and CJB with his 50s 00-17 purchase. I was thinking, thinking, thinking...since I had my CEO7 setup recently, I have played it a lot - the Mod V neck is great, better after a setup! Tough otherwise!

Then I thought how much I don’t want a 1 11/16” nut or the MLO neck and I arrived at 3 conclusions.....first was a 00-15M Custom from LA Guitars with a 1 3/4” nut.....except it doesn’t get the full Martin dovetail joint. Then I thought about a Waterloo MH, perfect specs but none anywhere here! Then I looked at the older model 00-18V, perfect specs...00 with Mod V.

One very overpriced unit at a very famous shop that would cost a kidney by the time I imported it. We were close.....

Then I was reading a NGD thread with the EC.......hmmm, Mod V neck...ding, ding. Quick peruse of the local fare shows one brand new in shadetop and .......mine at the second hand shop.

Finished work 1/2 hour early and headed off to join up to a freeway that gets close to the shop with the guitar. Phew, me and my little car among mountain of trucks and other cars both ways, somehow we made it back in one piece.

Shouldn’t have to, don’t normally and ha ha, I have posted  a photo or 3...😐

Oh , serial is 1260273 and it is the 13,863rd EC.....I thought the number would be 666 or something with THAT neck!

  7. I picked up a 2007 Martin 000-28EC (Eric Clapton) last Monday....

It has sat at a secondhand instrument/pawn shop for years possibly - I think it was there when I bought some other guitars 18 months ago! So I thought I would put everyone out of their misery and buy it - I first played one in about 1998 when it first arrived at a  shop I frequent and that one was beautiful but very expensive, but one of the first small body guitars I ever saw/tried.

The shop photo for this one was pretty average and when I played it at the shop, it was covered in really thick dust and grime with strings from about...2007! I assumed I was buying a used Stage 2/3 Relic (Pre War Guitar Co term), but after a dust and a wipe and new strings plus a Humidipak in the case, it is pretty unrecognisable after only a few days! It is almost 'unplayed pristine':

Yeah, I went through all that with the mini Rotos on my Blues King L-00......no dice but I haven't looked recently.

My tuners are actually very good, I also have the Golden Age on others guitars and they are so so.

Someone suggested paint the mini roto buttons white, may have been nail polish? If your tuners work well, paint them, or you will have holes everywhere.

    Yep, definitely a keeper.  😄

Can't see the pics?  I'll see if I can figure it out.

Probably the best thing to do is to join Imgur photo hosting site - free.

Load the photos to Imgur and copy the included link to the forums.... easy and fairly fool proof...😁

    2 (pristine!!!) Waterloos easy as A, B. 😄

Sorry bout going dark for a little bit there.  I had to take care of a little paint stripper accident in my shop/office.  I'll go into those details below but it's not pretty.

That's a great idea.  I have no idea how to record myself and load it but maybe that'd be a good thing to figure out.

As far as comparisons go, it's very easy to go back and forth between the LG2  and the 'Loo.  They have different neck profiles but are friendly to each other.  I really like the slightly wider spacing on the 'Loo which comes in handy for being a 'picking guitar. The LG2 I mainly do strumming stuff on and while a bit narrower at the nut as well as bridge it is still so very comfortable.  There really is something special about that guitar.

I still have the WL-14Mh and pick it up every so often and really enjoy it but I'm thinking that it needs to go.  It's such a nice guitar and has more of a general overlap with both the Ladder 'Loo and the LG2.

The paint stripper story, a cautionary tale of woe:  I had the Ladder 'Loo out on a stand across my office from my workbench  a couple days after I received it (purchased used from Steve Kovacik in New York - great guy to buy from by the way!).   I was working on something and needed to use a little bit of CitrusStrip paint stripper that I brought up from the cold basement.  When I opened the container I suddenly discovered that it was under pressure of some kind and it then launched  some of it's contents in various directions.  I went to work cleaning up the mess and trying to make sure it didn't not get on any important pieces I was working on or on the dog.  A little while later I noticed a few spots on the nice clean black guitar on the stand that weren't there before.  It turns out that the paint stripper reached all the way over to the  guitar stand and was doing what it was intended to do in a few spots on the guitar top and sides. In a mad rush to clean it up I accidentally spread it around more and proceeded to damage some areas on the the finish and melting part of the pickguard.  I carefully removed the pickguard using some naphtha and clean rags.  The whole thing looked terrible.  I had to get back to work but couldn't help thinking about what I'd do about the damage. That night I looked around the internets and found some pictures of old well played ebony colored L-00's and decided that I'd continue the accidental relic of my sweet little Ladder 'Loo.  So over the next few days I continued to work on the finish - using all kinds of nightmarish methods like cans of compressed air to 'weather check' the finish, sanding and wet sanding the finish in strategic places to 'hide' the paint stripper spots, and wood stain and I decided while I was at it that I'd do a 'speed neck' as the back of the neck had a gummy finish from 'the accident'.  Overall I think I'm done with the relic'ing process.  It looks ratty and is hard to look at but she still plays well and sounds even better than before (I think).  Hopefully nothing structural happened during all this, seems ok to me but I might take it to a guy who knows what he's doing to make sure.   So I guess the 5 year old new to me guitar is now a solid keeper.

The 'speed neck' feels amazing too (I used a method mentioned by John Arnold).

10/10 highly recommended to not do this on so many levels. But that's ok.  Lessons learned.

Ha, yep!  I'm really enjoying this one.  So much so that the Mahogany WL-14 is on the block!

    Great article, thanks!

So how are comparing the LG2 and Waterloo ladder?

We need more than ‘enjoying it’!

Recording, videos, same song both guitars, thanks. No pressure then.... (kidding of course).

How do you like playing both necks?

No sign of a new LG2 of any ilk here as yet, don’t think they are coming really. The local product is a similar size guitar and 1/3 the price and go off like hotcakes when they can get them! Their Martin rack is empty too - one new dread, one used.

It's really good actually!  I haven't felt the need to tweak anything at all.  I usually feel the need to fiddle with something about the playability after a few days but I don't want to change anything about it.

No excuses now! Get into it.

Here is an interesting article on Acoustic Guitar mag from last year about Audrey Bartlett from Waterloo Guitars:

@BluesKing777 that was fantastic!  Love it.

    Thanks CJB!

How is the setup on the ladder?

Mine was fine straight from the shop and I happily played it as is for a couple of years....but when I had the Trinity installed, I also had a full setup. The luthier said he took  a fair bit of the bass side and now I am steaming around! Intonation is just great - I play a lot up the fretboard and that is where getting a Collings build comes in, compared to some of the other klappers you were asking about!

Quick update on the Ladder pursuit:  I got my hands on a well used Waterloo WL-14L with non adjustable truss rod several days ago.  From the first note I could tell it was 'somethin mighty differnt' as my dear old grandma used to say.  It's immediate, round warm tone was exactly what I wanted to compliment my LG2. And it feels so alive too.   Haven't been able to put it down since and I'm quite content now.  It weighs only 3lb 2oz and feels like a toy when you pick it up.  It's all black which I don't really like but I can overlook the look and love the tone.  Oh yeah, the neck is also a prominent V that is incredibly comfy.

I'd still like to get my hands on a good LG1 and will have an opportunity in a few weeks when my local shop resurrects an old 60's model in need of major surgery.

I congratulated you on the other channel but here is another one!

My ladder is burst and my X is black - a black ladder might just do my head in!

Now, to get the ladder ready to plug in and all that entails has taken me a few years...I have had every pickup known to mankind surely, but last year I decided to go 'dual source' to attempt to get the fabulous Maton 'dual sourced' sound from a guitar that is not a...well, Maton.

I decided on the K&K Trinity - it is all removable supposedly - a K&K mini on the bridgeplate and a condenser mic in the guitar. I run a stereo lead to the preamp box, which has gain, bass, treble control inside the box and a volume for the mic and another for the pickup to allow you to balance....hmmm...I have both on full! I use headphones or in ear monitors. I have all that pretty sorted after a few months of experimentation.

Yesterday, I decided to upgrade my Tonedexter firmware to the latest supposed improved sounds. First, I had to go shopping for an SD card and get home and figure what to do. Pretty easy and done!

This morning, I made the first updated wavefile with my...here is the point...Waterloo ladder braced WL-14L. If I  run a normal guitar lead to the Tonedexter from the guitar, it allows you to use just the bridge pickup - no mic, that needs stereo lead. Perfect for making Tonedexter files!

Here is the first updated sound off the rank, a short blues shuffle - run straight from Tonedexter to my mixer/iMac.:

    Phew...

That binding, the dog leg in the burst, the neck join and a bridge with a saddle at the wrong angle???.......to make it hard or impossible to get in tune....

A quick look on Reverb and most Ls are $4600-5000, so it could be a bargain. New bridge, bone saddle, paint the top black, rub some tea in that binding?

Depends on how much you want the Gibson logo, but you could probably get a sensational Waterloo WL-14 X braced with a few years on it for $1600-1800?

  16.

    One for the Maton fans!😎

While exploring some options, some kind of Maton sacrilege probably, I played my Maton Messiah 808 using just the undersaddle portion of the pickup system - internal mic turned off - and ran it to a Tonedexter file I made ages ago with a Neumann KM184 mic.

    Tonedexter % about 9 o'clock on the dial...just on.

I like the result - handy perhaps if the internal mic is giving drama...noisy room, or in my case a noisy floor fan blowing at me (hot here), storm outside.....and noisy household!

So a short blues on the Maton plugged direct from Tonedexter to iMac/Garageband:

    BluesKing777.

  17.

The Rode NT1a will sound great on your guitars, but so will your friend’s guitars and their conversation at your jam  - it is a very sensitive mic. If there is percussion or bass guitar, you are lost!

Be ok if you played on your own, but people get pickups for this reason plus the mic feedback and squeals that can happen.

You just have to try it for yourself. Plug your Rode into your amp when you get the right plug and see if you like it.

The Fishman soundhole pickup will work on your J100 but your L7 doesn’t have a soundhole......there use to be an archtop pickup that was a bridge with a pickup that you swapped out your floating bridge. Look them up.
