  1. Lots of good suggestions already.

I can only say what I do, whether that works for anyone else IDK. Probably not [cool].  But I never use Ipad or song sheets or any of that. Most of my band mates do. I will sometimes cheat off the Ipad next to me if possible :-).  But if your band isn't too anal about trying to get everything note-for-note, just try to know all the keys and chord progressions on each song. Most times when we do the set list we'll put what Key we play it in next to the Title. That helps. (I do print a Set List).  I use a mental trick of finding a way to connect each chord, riff, verse... whatever...to the following chord, riff, verse...whatever. Each thing jogs my memory to the following thing. That usually gets me through 80% and I fake the rest. No use over thinking sh!t and getting too stressed about it. Have fun and enjoy the gig, and most likely everyone else will too.

Hopefully enough money will be raised to find a solution to  Alzheimers before I get it.

Could be that the jurisdictions you witnessed this behavior in are now turning a blind eye to traffic violations in the cause of “driving equity.” I have no doubt that Seattle and Philadelphia are not the only jurisdictions with such policies.   So it’s quite possible those officers you witnessed  have been ordered NOT to make traffic stops for “minor” violations.  Political Correctness always trumps public safety in some jurisdictions.

  3. Off the top of my head, I think the R8 is more of a plain top, whereas R9 has a real flamey burst. Also think R9 neck is thinner.  Not sure if any difference in pickup's.

I wouldn't guess those photos as either one.

  4. Well since the Forums are back up, I'll bring this thread back again. [cool]

Played another gig with our "band". I put that in quotes because this isn't an official band. It's Steve and I and a rotating cast of dudes we bring in to play when needed. The guy we had booked on bass (Ed) realized again at the last minute he double booked himself, and he got this dude Art to fill in for the second time. So it was Steve (acoustic/vocals), Louis (drums), Art (bass) and me (electric guitar/vocals). But then at the last minute Ed's brother Elvin  (guitar)showed up and we squeezed him in  too.

Musically it was a great night. We had a blast, played great and the crowd loved us.  But the bar kinda stiffed us on the pay. We already expected to get less per person when we added Elvin into the equation, but then the bar gave us a check for even less than we expected. I think this is the last time we play there even though we have more gigs on the books.

  5. Yeah thanks. Not to run it in the ground, but just to emphasize I've had the adrenaline high from a great song or gig before. You know the crowd is dancing or getting into it and the band is really cooking. But this seemed like it was related to the physical vibrations of the instruments. Like the sound absorbed into the soul or something. [blush] I know that sounds corny.

  6. I wonder if anyone has ever had similar experience to this? Or maybe it happens to other all the time?

I've been jamming and playing in bands since the mid 1990's. I've done more jams, parties, gigs etc than I could ever count. And with different groups, bands and lineups. There's been lots of fun times and there's been plenty of times where I thought (and everyone else) that we played and sounded great.

But I had something happen recently that I've never experienced before. Now I'm not generally an emotional guy or overly sentimental. We played a gig the Saturday before St Paddy's Day. Initially it was going to be Steve and I acoustic. Then they wanted a band so we got drums and bass player. The day of gig the bass player's brother showed up so we squeezed him in as another guitar. This guy Elvin is so good. His brother Ed on bass is amazing too. It's such an honor to play with these guys. We had a great gig all around and they loved us.  But there was a particular point we were playing the song Dead Flowers. Simple 3 chord song with simple lyrics. There was a moment when we were all so locked-in. Drums were perfectly grooving with bass, Steve rhythmically strumming his D, A, G chords and singing, and Elvin and I improvising together on the fills and extended lead jam. Our two guitars were blending so perfectly that I got goose bumps and a lump in my throat and even got a little light headed. It had nothing to do with the song we were playing or the crowd (including my wife) there. It was like the vibrations of the music, especially our two guitars, triggered a weird response. Again I'd never had that happen before and it kind of freaked me out a little.

Anyone else have something like this happen when they play?

  7. My neighbor has a jacked up Silverado and on the back window in bold letters it say "HEY SNOWFLAKES. F@CK YOUR FEELINGS". Originally it said "TRUMP 2020. F@CK YOUR FEELINGS" but he changed that part. And it's not censored like I typed it. He works for Penske and I believe also the county. I guess his employers doesn't care if he offends snowflakes, or liberals or woke people or parents with children in the car behind him or whatever. As long as it's his personal vehicle I guess it doesn't matter. :-k

  8. I have a stash of 12AX7s so should be good for awhile. But my PRS amp recently crapped out on me at a gig. I don't think it's anything to do with the EL34s but I don't know sh!t.

The guy who played bass with us used to repair amps and he has taken it but still hasn't figured it out. Luckily I have my BOSS Katana as a back-up. Maybe I should just give up on tube amps anyway since every one I've ever owned has had issues at one time or another.

  9. I've gotten vaccine and booster. I've either avoided catching it so far, or have just been asymptomatic.  I've used the home test twice and negative both times.

I've seen so many of these conspiracy theorist anti vaxers end up dying from it. Like that Washington State Trooper who famously quit and told the governor to kiss his a @@.

  10. Rather than start a new thread, figured I'd add this here even if it's not exactly on topic.

Coming up this weekend, it will be two years ago that we played a last gig before the big lockdown in the US. It was the Saturday before St Paddy's Day and we were the last act of several playing a pre St Paddy's party at a Ram's Head. We were booked to play same place on actual St Paddy's Day which I believe was a Tuesday, but it never happened.

So this Saturday we are booked to play another Ram's Head location for a similar deal as two years ago. We are one of about 5 bands playing throughout the day. Just feels a little ironic.

Then we will pack the band up and just Steve and I are going to bolt over to another local bar to do an acoustic gig that night.  If WWIII doesn't happen, maybe we can look forward to a full year of gigs for the first time in two years.

Looks like Delfest is actually going to happen this year too after 2 years off. The lineup isn't as good as past but who cares. 4 days of camping and partying and listening to some great live music. [cool]

It's the external version of having that bag in the bottom of a Fender amp.  I'm guessing these were originally created to add reverb to amps like the Fender Bassman which doesn't have reverb built in.

Ah. Thanks. More than 10 years coming to these Forums and I'm still learning stuff. 🙂

  12. So Sir Paul is playing 14 dates in the US. I notice he's taking plenty of time between shows except May 2 and 3. Baltimore is second to last stop at Camden Yards. I doubt I'll go. I have some friends that say they are getting tickets. They go on sale Friday. Who knows? Maybe I'll try to get a pair for wife and I. I wouldn't mind just being able to say "I saw Paul McCartney". Plus it's only the second concert ever at Camden Yards after Billy Joel played a few years ago.
