Wow.
Mine has never given me a second thought. My J-45 is a 2003 and has been all over and just has the metal clamp.
My new J-15 has a little bag thing with a Velcro flap.
They have both been trouble free.
Best of luck.

I came within inches of buying a little Taylor cedar top before I got my J-45 (2003). I don't know their model #'s and stuff, but it was a small bodied guitar and was a hoot to play. A local store had it and I'd go back and play it often until it finally sold. That was the only cedar I've ever messed with, I think.

I have a Rosewood/Ebony J-45 and a Walnut J-15.
The Walnut is such a great tone wood. My J-45 is loud and bright as far as Rosewood goes, but the J-15 is louder.

I love Walnut, and mine is even cheaper... (J-15)

I've got a sticky one, and a not sticky one. The sticky one has Gorilla (the best) duct tape on the sticky parts.
They're both pretty old.

Always a class act.
Nice.

Nice guitar.
Not sure about the Richlite, a friend of mine has a Martin with it, but he thinks it's Ebony.
I'll probably never correct him.

That is because they are the only ones with enough money to afford them.
According to this their economy is in 3rd place.

I would think Chinese people would be buying a lot, too.

I am a Rosewood guy.
I guess now I'm a Walnut guy as well.

That's my guess as well.

I think mine was just called a "Rosewood", but it was ebony board and bridge.

flatbaroque already mentioned Greg Lake but I've always loved watching this video of him extolling the virtues of a J200.
Yep.

I'm actually enjoying it.............

I don't know much about the durability of the cutting and gluing, BUT...............
I DO know that Walnut is a beautiful American wood and while plentiful here in the U.S.A., it is a great tone-wood. I have a multi-laminated Walnut '79 SG that is a great sounding guitar.
I love those J-15's for the value and buyability and bet some of them sound exceptional.

Duluthdan-In all sincerity with gratitude, this past October 2015 I actually had that joy of the experience you mention of sitting right at the same spot as on the video (from a hotel room deck overlooking the Pacific) and plucking away playing this same song (although I did it on a ukulele as my guitar was too big to fly with my wife and I out to SoCal from Chicagoland)..and marveling at it all. It was wonderful...
