Did some gigging around fla gulf in the late 70s. Panama City and such. Learned real quick to pay attention to how you get paid. Ended up owing a bar tab. Arg...

My first "performance" was around Clearwater Beach. The "Surfside" and "Big Mama's". I was still a kid, but could hold my own. Then we moved to Arizona and I gigged all over the Valley for many, many years before re-locating again. To Cajun country.

  2. I've lived all over the U.S.A. Never lived anywhere for long, my dad had a travelling bone.

I guess coming of age in the Mesa/Phoenix area.

Music was in me and I learned I could get paid to drink beer and play guitar.

    Quit drinking around 2010.

    Murph,

My Gibson j-45, Guild GAD jf-30, Washburn parlour, and Grenada ES-335 knock-off electric, were all sourced on kijiji, or Craigslist, and I've been happy with all of them.

    Cool.

I found my Swamp Dog "slightly used on Reverb, then took a day trip ride to the town, and went into the (music) store with cash and never mentioned Reverb.

Offered less than the asking price, cash, tax included, and took it home.

    Love those deals.

    Seems right.

I'd be surprised by what various people define as "rich".....probably as varied as our coffee rigs!

    Yep.

He always said you can easily tell a rich person from a poor person. The ones who "act" like they have money don't, and the ones who act like they're broke are the ones with the money.

It's still mostly true 50 years later.

  5. Back in my electric gigging days, I preferred speed knobs for the ease of rolling them up/down. My '79 SG has them, and I gigged that guitar a bunch with a Marshall 1/2, and also later a Fender Prosonic (Zinky), then the Boogie and or both. Another reason I liked the Studio Les Paul's, still have one in fact.

My reference was always "wide open" and I'd back down enough to keep a sound guy "honest".

The Gibson top hats took a tad more effort/thought, but I never looked at them for the numbers, I'd just "feel" my reference point.
