Another consideration to keep in mind is that unless your audience is made up of gearheads, they don’t care if you’re playing a pricey Gibson or a cheap Chibson. Their two main criteria are 1) can we hear the guitar? and 2) can we hear the guitar? That’s it. We obsess over the intricacies of the guitar and sound, but they don’t.

    Words of wisdom.

  2. A man is looking for a parking space but he is having absolutely no luck. As he drives around he begins to desperately pray to God.

“Please God, if you find me a parking spot I promise I will go to church every Sunday and never touch a drop of alcohol again!”

A moment later the man sees a parking spot open up right next to the entrance. He gasps and heads toward it. As he pulls into the space he turns his eyes to heaven and prays,

    “Never mind. Found one!”

I would not add a pickup to this guitar. It should have the aged top and have a great tone. Mic it.

    I'm going to (obviously) agree.

Both my 2003 J-45 and my J-15 have pickups, but they're rarely used. I prefer the old school SM57 on the guitar and an SM58 for vocals. And I have and often do gig in many live situations. Me and Dave Rawlings do it all the time. I would use an ETL if Owen and I didn't get so loud and crazy.

The true tone of an acoustic guitar is beyond compare, I surely wouldn't ADD a pickup to a Gibson that didn't have one.

  4. A gentleman named Mitch strolls into a tavern, accompanied by a newt perched upon his shoulder.

Intrigued, the barmaid behind the counter asks its name.

With a smirk, Mitch responds, “His name is Tiny.”

Curious about the choice of name, the barmaid asks Mitch why he chose to name his companion Tiny.

After a brief pause, Mitch grins and quips, “Well, you see, he’s my newt.”

  5. Gruhns would probably be worth a cab/uber fee. When they were on Broadway it was easier, but the "tourist" traffic must have driven them crazy as time went on. Broadway is now just a bar scene with bars actually cruising the road, and since I no longer drink alcohol, I don't go to Nashville anymore.  I really enjoyed the Hall of Fame many years ago, but it's probably been ruined as well.

Memphis has kept a lot of its heritage with less glitter and more grit, but there is still too much glitter.

I'm glad I got to spend a lot of time in Nashville before it was totally ruined. Gigged a little, busked a little and played the Bluebird and Tootsies. Although I'm sure there are people who say it was too industrial back in those days and it's much more "hip" now.

Have fun with it and keep your wallet safe.

  6. Just spent 2 days in Hannibal, the boyhood home of Mark Twain.

What a cool little town. Toured the Rockcliffe mansion and the cave and several museums. I'm humbled how the "real men" carved a town and built homes and fortunes in this rocky, hilly, muddy little river town without trucks, power tools and electricity in the 1800's.

I'm thinking tourism is dropping due to people who have actually read Sam's books dying off. I don't see that trend reversing. If you like history, it's well worth dropping a few hundred bucks and a road trip.

Yeah just a home player.  Thanks for your input

If you're just playing at home try a Bose S1-Pro. It'll take 2 mics, I use an SM57 for guitar and an SM58 for vocals. It will gig for many hours on a charge with no power needed and sounds fabulous in that low volume setting.

I gig a little (acoustic) and will use multiple set ups with different Bose/p.a.  units and a Carvin 100 watt 1;12 acoustic amp if needed. I'm thinking about turning my old Blue Angel (electric guitar amp) into a Rosette.

    There are no rules.
