I honestly liked that amp. it really sounded good.
There is a local player here who was still using an old Lab Series the last time I saw him. He's a fantastic player with great tone. He must have a good tech, man those amps are old, eh?

Their last release, Let It Be showed me just how much George Martin contributed to The Beatles. IMO Phil Spector couldn't save it. Not that the album was bad, it was OK, but it didn't have the George Martin magic.
I loved "Let It Be". The desire of them wanting to do a "live" sounding project, WITHOUT the multiple overdubs and tape splicing was brilliant to me. I actually prefer the "Naked" version that Paul remixed to the original release with Spector's influence.
However, I think the thread got a little de-railed.
Perhaps it's just me but I thought it was about the MUSIC holding up to musical standards, not so much PERSONAL preference.
While I'm sure Taylor Swift will have old fans 60 years from now who still like her music, the Beatles work is considered great by scholars, musicians, sound engineers and writers for many of the reasons you stated earlier. Leaving the tonic to go off on a tangent of different progressions, stories and timing, coming back/or not.
It was so fresh and unheard of in pop music at the time. Your insights and incites are quite good.

Don't have the cash?
No problem.
You can sell blood, sell organs, rent yourself to old ugly women, bake cookies and get a little kid to go around selling them wearing rags, wash cars, walk dogs.
Anything is possible.

One evening, Adam stayed out very late which made Eve quite upset.
When he got home, she yelled at him: “You’re running around with other women.”
“You’re being unreasonable,” Adam responded. “You’re the only woman on Earth.”
The quarrel continued until Adam fell asleep, only to be awakened by someone poking him in the chest. It was Eve.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Adam demanded.

Nickle is the main ingredient in stainless.
I hate the sound of stainless strings.
Stainless is good for tools, knives, forks and such.
There is a reason they make bells out of brass/bronze.
It sounds better.

One more.
Steel guitar players loved those old Peavey Nashville 400's.

had a Lab Series
The Lab amps and the Rolands were the only respectable solid state amps with any following.

I seriously doubt anybody will be talking about Taylor Swift's music on a guitar forum 60 years from now.

David Lee Roth started that trend...

Mustang bass.
Bingo.
My daughter is small and has one.
She also has a Uke bass. That thing is a hoot with rubber strings into a small bass amp. Sounds very similar to an upright.

Maybe a better question would be, "Can modern music hold up as well, over time, as the music of the Beatles has?"
Brilliant.

What is it about Walnut that you like?
It's tight, it's loud and it's American.
My J-15 is the same size as my Rosewood J-45. It's not as loud as the J-45, but she'll hold her own with mandolins and banjos.
Okay, maybe not banjos......

I saw a documentary somewhere about Elvis producing "Heartbreak Hotel". Himself. Way back then.
He had a sound in his head, which was very unusual FOR THAT TIME and listening to it even now will reflect his true genius.
After his tremendous success I think his mind turned to other things and he put less time and effort into the recordings and was more concerned with the image.
I think he knew enough guitar to learn songs and perform, and that was all he needed.

It's become kind of a modern classic, like the old Peavey Classic 30's.
It's hard to beat a small power, single 12, tube combo. My Blue Angel is my favorite bar amp ever.
That's why I haven't sold it yet.

I used to watch his show on RFD-TV.
Not sure why it's not on any more.
I pulled this up on YouTube on the tv yesterday to show to my daughter and she had forgotten about Ray Stevens.
We ended up watching "It's Me Again Margaret", "Ahab The Arab", "The Streak", and a ton of his classics. I also saw some newer ones I had never heard.
Such a funny guy.
Everybody is so knotted up these days they can't enjoy a good laugh. And that's a shame.
