  1. Football game on Noah's Ark

Okay so the animals have been on the ark for thirty days and thirty nights and frankly they are getting bored. So to provide entertainment B-Deck challenges C-Deck to a game of football. They get it all set up and begin play. B-Deck makes some early gains but C-Deck is unstoppable. They have Rhinoceros and once he gets going you cant stop him. Soon the first half is over and the score is 24-7. The second half begins and while in the huddle Rhinoceros looks over at B-Decks defensive line and sees Centipede on their defensive line. "Give me the ball," he says, "There aren't going to be any centipedes in the new world because I'm crushing this one right here and right now" The Center snaps the ball and the quarterback hands it off to Rhinoceros who begins charging down Centipede. Centipede rears up grabs Rhinoceros by the legs and SLAMS him to the deck. Ball pops loose, centipede grabs the ball. He's rushing down the field weaving in and out and TOUCHDOWN!!! The crowd goes wild! C-Deck's captain, Lion rushes over and says, "Centipede that was amazing! Where were you in the first half?"

" I was lacing my shoes."

In the late 70s/early 80s I gigged with a Peavey 50w Classic 4x10 VT series combo, the one with the built-in phaser and 4-button footswitch.

A friend in Arizona I gigged with had one of those in the 2;12 version. I bought my Deuce during those years gigging with him in the redneck bars east of Phoenix in the late70's/early 80's. Peavey was a young company and it was dominating the small p.a. business as well.

We made a ton of money, drank, fought and chased wild women back then.

    Man, that was fun...

My current guitar of the last nearly 17 years is still a mystery to me.

That's the way my 20+ year old J-45 rosewood/ebony hit me, nearly 20 years ago. It changed everything about how I play, and I had already been gigging for decades.  I found the magic stairwell in a 100+ year old house I had bought and eventually moved into. My electric gigging days were over within a few years. I became obsessed with acoustic music, from blues to bluegrass to folk/roots, all things acoustic.

Guitar forums were a new thing back then and everybody had opinions on which woods would sound like what and what guitar to play for certain music and blah, blah, blah.

Twenty some odd years later all I can add is that there are truly no rules.

Which is worse? Martin building Guitars in Mexico or Gibson building Guitars in China?

Some Epiphones are built in China.

No Gibson's are built in China.

    Or Mexico.

If a guy in a bar tells me he owns a Martin, it could be a cheap import.

If he tells me he owns a Gibson, I know it's not a cheap import.

Is this really that hard for you guys to comprehend?

  5. I saw a beat up Peavey Deuce in a pawn shop the other day. I owned one for quite a while. 2;12's 6L6's, ss pre-amp. Bought new around 1979/80 probably because of Gary Rossington who used a Mace. It was a powerful and durable amp that could handle any gig.

I replaced it with a JCM900 Marshal half stack. The 900's weren't respected much in those days, but the clean channel was pretty good.

I think Saturn had a Carvin "legacy" Steve Vai combo. I was always curious about those. I never got to play one, but had a buddy with the Carvin 100 watt platform it was built from, can't remember the model. He also had a 50 watt Bel Aire that was a pretty good bar rig.

I also owned a Peavey "Classic" 50 tweed (2;12 combo) that had a fan to cool the EL84's. It was a good sounding amp, but I didn't keep it long after getting the Marshall. Those American built Peavey Classic 30's had a pretty good run too, but I never owned one.

I still have a Fender Prosonic (Zinky) 2;10 combo that should be a classic, but never seemed to get there. I dig it though, so am hanging on.

I'll think of more, I'm sure. What about the old Trayners and Music Mans...

I'm in the process of replacing the original tuners on my 1975 J-50 with a set of Grovers.

The original "Gibson" tuners, (Klusons ?) hold the tune very well, but are hard to turn...and my arthritic hands ache each time I tune it.

I'm hoping the Grovers will do better, (no issues on my other guitars with Grovers on them).

I always liked the gold Grovers on my J-45. Smooth, accurate. I never noticed them being heavy.

My J-15 has the "mini" Grovers and they work fine, but they are noticeably smaller when switching back and forth.

  7. I failed my driving test today. I was driving down a country road with the examiner, when a rabbit ran out right in front of the car.

I remembered my instructor said you should never swerve or try to avoid an animal, because it's dangerous and you can end up causing a more serious accident. You should always just hit it and keep on driving.

Had to chase that little bugger for miles across the fields before I finally got it!

  8. A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, only to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner.

“Good morning,” said the young man. “If I could take a couple minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners”.

“No thank you!” said the old lady. “I haven’t got any money,” and she proceeded to close the door.

Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed it wide open. “Don’t be too hasty!” he said. “Not until you have at least seen my demonstration”.

And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse dung all over her hallway carpet.

“If this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure from your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainder”.

“Well,” she said, “I hope you’ve got a good appetite, because our electricity was cut off this morning!”

I know....lots of chain yankers around here. And then they wonder why this place can't seem to hold on to new people. Hard to fit in.

No chain yankin' here, just telling it like it is.

You've been here a few years, so we're doing something right.

    Ceptorman,

    You are being trolled.

And by a guy who thinks that the company that makes one guitar in 648 different colours, and pretends they are all different simply to boost sales, is the number one guitar company in the world.

    Trolled?

This is a Gibson owned forum. I've been a Gibson player for over 50 years. I own Gibsons dating back to 1933. A 1962 Melody Maker twin pickup I've owned since 1969. I wore the frets off a '72 "Recording" Les Paul.  I gigged a 79 SG with country/southern rock bands from the Gulf coast to Nashville. I've been a member of this forum for over 15 years, and was on the one that this one replaced. Yea, I'm a Gibson enthusiast.

Martin watered down their name when they started importing Martins.

    They did.

If I was looking for comments from people who admire the Martin Company, I'd join a different forum.

Martin has new models as cheap as $500, and quite a few under $1000. Their website shows a $650 model right next to one that is $125,000!

Yea, the Martin name means nothing anymore. Might be American, might be Mexican, who knows...?
