  1. Y'all hit on all my concerns, guys. Thanks a bunch for all the information. I'm in the 99.9% sure range on the nut not being cracked. It was startling to see at first. I never, ever would have though a nut could have Nitro or any finish on it. Very strange. Thanks for sharing your eyes and knowledge again. 😎
  2. I didn't even know they sprayed nitro on nuts. My concern isn't so much cosmetics of it in of itself. If the nut isn't busted, which I don't think it is, the only remaining concern I would have is if someone were to replace the nut, would there be any potential of danger to surrounding areas' finish. My luck with nuts this past 12 months and more so this past month is unfathomable.
  3. Awesome!!!!! Mr sharp tongue internet guy joined the party. Feel better now? Walking around with the chest pumped out? Feeling good about yourself now? Holy smokes! A little tact used to be a good thing. Why it's gone now might very well be rocket science. Go pound yourself.
  4. It's possible. It feels like a whole layer of something on the bottom part of the nut. Anyone have any advice on best way to determine?
  5. Yeah, that's what I am pointing out. I really hope that's just something simple like that. It's similar on the treble side, but higher up on the nut. Almost to the top. How best to determine? Loosen the strings?
  6. Am I seeing what I think I'm seeing?
  7. I'd like to try a Historic Collection Maple some day. I can't imagine how long it will be before one hits a local store. My RW version has become my favorite since opening up this Spring. There is something special about an SJ-200.
  8. I REALLY like the PBs on my Martin RW for the reasons you mentioned. They do well on my RW SJ-200, too. I think barbed wire would sound good on this one.
  9. I understand! I think I've mentioned those NBs were my go-to for a couple years on the Maple SJ-200.
  10. Man, those JP New mediums are a tough act to follow. To that end..... Bruce, have you tried those DR 80/20's yet? I put them on my RW SJ-200. These things are very different. I've had them on for 4 days now. I finally figured out their happy zone as installed this guitar. It's quite good for that fast, hard, but not very deep strumming thing. At first I had wished I saved these for the Hummingbird. I didn't like them for much else, though. There were times I thought the warmth was comparable to the JP's, but it seemed to be mushy unless I didn't strike it just right. Some basic flat picking, hybrid picking and other non-strummy things just did not project nor define well. One other note on the Santa Cruz Parabolic strings mentioned earlier. My Martin D-41 for a good solid day before the D-string just starting doing some crazed hyper-buzzing like it was about to snap. $19 down the drain.
  11. Nice looking work on your J45! Before I saw the pics, I was thinking nay on the batwing. I was sold in an instant, though. Very nice, indeed. I had to look at the picture about 5 times to see what 62burst was talking about. That, to me, would have been the most nerve-wracking thing to try DIY.
  12. So Gents, is it safe to assume you like these Boveda packs better than the d 'Addario humipacks? I've not heard of them until this thread.
  13. Side question. It's my thread, so I can get away with it? Anyhow, an alternate brand guitar of which we both had one of. Did the tuners get wicked tight on you? My D-string tuner is getting really tight.
  14. Man, if Only I had known I would get into playing guitars one day. All the used deals and pawnshop finds that happened pre-interweb. 'oy!
  15. All over the place, then. I've got a decent, but cheap MIK Gretsch Electromatic g5420(or g5120? W/E) that's spent maybe two weeks in a case over 12-ish years I've had it. Still plays wonderfully. Couldn't bear to sell it recently. Decided to find good pickups for it and keep it. Might as well invest $30 in one of those Boveda packs mentioned earlier. An ES-335 is no simple amount of $$. Definitely worth the time and effort to start it down the right path, or at least a safe one. @littlejohnny, that's a nice looking pair of guitars you're sporting. 😎 Likewise, Dave, as always with an enviable collection even in it;s diminished, but currently manageable state.
  16. Nice! Sounds like a beauty. I hate to be sound like such a cliche, but would love to see a pic. 🙂
  17. Let's say you were about to get your first nice ES-335 or have had them for years. Would you, or do you, store it like you do your acoustics, or are they far less temperamental and far less susceptible to high or low humidity?
  18. Man, that was outstanding!!!
  19. My one and only Artist model, a Love Dove, is one of 50, IIRC. I've seen some others as low as 40. My approach changed as soon as someone told me it was limited. I didn't know that until hours before I jumped on one of two new ones left in the country. The irony is, the place I got it from had a video out on mine for almost a year that I watched several times. They clearly stated that it was a limited edition. I lucked out a few different ways around on that one.
  20. I had a funny thought just a few minutes ago. I watched the movie Crazy Heart a few minutes ago. Jeff Bridges playing a washed up drunk ex-Country Rocker type playing in dives and bowling alleys. The thought of your man having to go through that sort of tour struck me as amusing. This reminded me of an odd one-off product that seemed to help me in the past. With my vocals, I should have never stopped. Just sort of forgot about it. There was this one tea - "Throat Coat" by a company calling themselves Traditional Medicinals. It's lead flavor bar on the package says "LEMON ECHINACLEA". It's got this creepy coating sensation and does seems to work, especially with added honey. I'd much rather drink a standard issue tea, though. That said, I should try it again.
  21. That was a very good listen. I think the perspective choice you made was a good one. I was thinking of the last line repeated, changed for perspective of course, and it only could be sung by a female. Not anything political, but she was a she, and the woe and sorrow would have to be convincing. Musically, it sounded like you did something just a little different. No idea what it was. It sounded nice is all I know.
  22. On a related note, I was wondering what Pavarotti used? I recall him have big battles with the chords. it seemed to always make the music news when he had to cancel shows.
