We've been working on self morphology.

Give an AI an arm, but no software for it. Let it learn how to make it move, what the limits of movement are, all the intricate accuracy, for itself. It's astonishing.  We're not up to Boston Dynamic's standards, but its fascinating stuff. The AI in the self morphology is actually our point of interest.

Yeah... Its quite interesting..   Ive seen a few videos on self learning AI

This is what a robot looked like in the 60s. When a robots appearance become a style choice, I'll choose a retro one like this

Lol..  Slightly more seriously, the speed at which technology is evolving is speeding up... Im no conspiracy type person, theres no telling exactly whats going to happen when AI and robots meet and the technology gets perfected.. But it is happening, I think we can all see that.  It used to be that say for example processing power  for computers used to double every two years (Moores law) but I think we have gone way past that now and are speeding up quicker than anyone could have imagined.

In 1987 I had a VIC20 and I was hooked on Omega Race. I’d buy an old VIC20 today just to get that game with the old controller (not joystick).

I have  a box in the attic with a half dozen old NES consoles. I have one set up in my downstairs office and occasionally play Tetris, Dr Mario, or Wrecking Crew.

That’s the extent of my gaming!

The thing with racing games is that games mechanics wise they are mostly the same.. Accelerate, break and turn...   I mean there are other types but the basic racing game hasnt changed much in that way..  This is what they look like today. You can also do other things in these games like mod your cars and stuff like that.

  4. I have played them most of my life.. I stopped for about a decade or so as I just got bored with it, at that point I had been a game designer and could not turn off my analytical side and would just internally critique them while playing and think what I would have done instead..  But sometime late last year I got a Nintendo Switch which I have the odd session but nothing like I used to do.. Even if I wanted too my hands wont take it any more so I just do it on occasion now.

I think people can have an opinion without having to defend it.  I worked  twice as long in healthcare administration - if someone wants to have a negative opinion about it  I’m not going to worry about it. It’s too broad and   complex to  argue about in a social media format. Like computer games and guns. And a hundred other things.

Of course they can.. But this is meant to be a discussion..

Ive heard all the nonsense slated at video games and most of it is unsubstantiated nonsense...  So I genuinely wanted to know if its just that or he has some other reason...

Whats the point of people just stating an opinion without stating why when asked?  Theres no discussion there and isnt that the point of being on here? Its not a particularly complex subject to be honest.

    Rabs,

If you really  need an explanatuon, you won't understand anyway.

    RBSinTo

Again.. Why do you say that?   I have many years experience in the games industry and would like to know why you think that..

Id say if you cant give me an answer its you that doesnt understand...

Most of the negativity around gaming is BS...

  7. https://thejhsshow.com/articles/modal-effects-a-new-pedal-format

    How It Works

The Modal Effects modular distortion gets its name from the pedal’s layout. You have a base unit (a skeleton, so to speak), with six different ‘mods’ you can place in any order that you like. Jeremy and Dallas were inspired by pedals like the Angry Driver, because they loved experimenting with putting the two effects in different orders in the chain.

The pedal itself essentially functions as a miniature pedal chain. Depending on what order you stack the mods onto the base, it changes the sound/tone. Just like on a normal pedal board, the signal follows the signal chain from right to left. The mods attach to the base magnetically, which makes it easy to plug in the mods but difficult to accidentally knock them out of place with your foot during an especially exciting solo/dance number. (I don’t know what you do during your live sets, and honestly, that’s your business.)

The Modal Effects modular distortion is essentially one base with six interchangeable mods (which adds up to more than 100 combinations). The mods are as follows:

    • Fuzz: a classic fuzz that offers a great balance of crunch and a rich, full sustain

    • Distortion: an iconic ’70s metal distortion with a harmonically rich, compressed sound Overdrive: a clean sounding overdrive with boosted mids, very reminiscent of the Tube Screamer

    • Boost: a clean boost with a warm sustain that’s great for pushing your guitar signal

    • Low-pass Tone: a versatile, low-pass filter that works well with all of our Mod combinations

    • Mid-scoop Tone: a combination of low-pass and high-pass filters that create a mid boost effect

  8. The main reason I posted this is not because of the violence, that just happened to be what that game was about. It was more about just how incredible those graphics look. We are like a step away from full photo realism..  And not that I expect many people to get this but doing all that detail and lighting and physics in real time is pretty amazing.

As for games and violence..  A lot of games are not violent at all and actually help with things like eye/hand coordination. Games are meant to be entertainment like a film.. And like a film you can choose to watch a violent film or not, you also choose to play that sort of game.. Or not. No one is being forced to play anything 🙂

If there are people who somehow think those games have anything to do with real life (however detailed they are).. Well id say they probably have other issues which have nothing to do with computer games.

People getting addicted to them. Well we are human, it happens.. Its more than likely in a lot of cases that someone who actually develops an issue with that has an addictive personality, and if it wasnt the game it would just be something else.

How about this.. And this is a year old now.. Graphics have only gotten better since

Good thing is there’s no deadline or reason to worry or rush at all. Nothing wrong with taking your time as needed. A custom style LP is a complicated project when you don’t have a fully set up factory. There are so many jigs and things to be made

Honestly, my biggest worry is the neck and pickup planes...  I have some ideas on how I will do it but am not 100% sure..  I may just have to do a practice run first. And the carving.. Using the templates is the easy bit.. Getting the right carve after that is the hard bit..

    Im fairly confident though 🙂

  10. I dont know if we have many gamers on here so if anyone will be interested but I saw something today that really shocked me....

I have been playing games since I was about 8 and was even in the games industry for about 15 years..  I have experience. And yet while I have watched graphics get better over the years I wasnt quite ready for this...

So this is what a first person shooter looked like when I started playing PC games

Today this is what we have..  Its from a new PC game coming called  Unrecord..  Just holy sh*t..  Wow

First thing you should know bout me is I'm a jokester. If I can make fun/light of something I will. Don't take anything I say seriously. Especially when followed by an upside down smilely face.

So lets get going cause me head won't last much longer smashing it into table tops.🙃

No its cool.. I really am genuinely frustrated with the last of progress.. I know its my build, I can do what I want. But life just loves getting in the way. And its always when I have something else to do  😄

  12. Hello...  Well theres to very easy things you can do.. Lower the high E side of the pickups. You could also fine tune the pole pieces (the screws on the top of the pickup).. But its simpler to try and simply lower that side of the pickup first.. Just a turn or two and try and strum and listen.

    Hope that helps [thumbup]

  13. Cool.. Does it still have the robot tuners?

If it wernt for the wide necks I would almost certainly have bought a 2015 (and replaced the tuners probably immediately  😄 ). In fact I see them on  Reverb all the time but know I wont get on with that neck (and yes I did try a few when they came out)..

But lovely guitars apart from that. Its one thing I do remember about the 2015s. I dont know what they were doing extra but the fit and finish of every one I saw was  absolutely flawless.

Their greed astounds me, yet some eat it up.

I would guess its for the same people who pay 10k+ for a guitar...  Whats another grand or so to protect your precious.....

Still crazy for a case though....

In saying that, if you were that bothered surely youd just buy a flight case and be done with it?
