  1. When I was building.. Well I guess I still am.. Sorta..

Anyway, I would not take chances  🙂  In saying that some people didnt mind it, but id say most people had an issue with just having something that looks so different from what they are used too.. My idea was the thicker the better as long as it plays ok. Which obviously I thought it did..  I think on the next ones if I ever get to finishing them I will try the more traditional look one that people are used too..  Frikken weirdo conservative electric guitar players  😄

  2. This is why.. Take a look at a sectional view of the side of a neck and look how much wood is under the nut access area.. Its kinda scary....  This and the reasons mentioned above.. 17 degree neck angle and string tension. And yes its a design flaw, but Gibson are a company whos business is based on tradition. They do try and make modern improvements but the 50s guitars have such a reputation that even today, thats still what people want, flaws n all...

It's really nice to have such a conversation with you! I learned a lot. Thanks for the time and patience.

Yeah, I quoted a line from Steve Vai, "the only thing that's holding you back is your mind".

    Thanks again, pal.

No worries.. That is why we are here after all..

Happy playing man.. That is a nice guitar you have for sure.. 👍

That looks cool, man. Yeah, we all get inspired by Slash, don't we? When I was like 12 or 13, I watched GNR 92 in Tokyo, which totally blew me away. The guitar playing was impressive, totally different from what I heard before. For years to come, before I have my first guitar, I moved on to listen to Nirvana, the grunge style, you know, so, after I get my first guitar, I directly went to play like Smells like teen spirit, come as you are, drain you, etc.  So, in a way, I was not actually practicing any solo skills (we all know what Kurt did with his guitar and music).

Although I had my guitar for like 10 years, I never really took many time to practice it, I had to admit, I was playing my PS4 for hours and hours,.

Now I got my new Slash LP, part of the reason is that I want to practice it now, I want to play now. I don't care if I'm going to a gig or play in front of ppl, I just want to play what I love by myself.

We have all been there.. I also probably spent a good ten years or so when I was concentrating on work and hardly played at all..  I could play ok and do some lead but didnt really know what I was doing at all.. It was only when I came on here I started learning about pentatonics and technical stuff to do with guitars when I actually started getting better.. And like you I am a by ear player mainly but still these vids help when you get stuck.

And this is also why I say its better to experiment and find your own sound. Most of us have a limited time and budget for guitar which means we can never learn everything we want.. But thats cool, as you say most of us play for the love of playing.. Gigging is cool but most of us dont have time to fit that in or maybe even want too... Its all good there are no rules here. Do what makes you happy. End of.

Guess I have a lot of work to do and practice, man, it's hard but it will be fun, I guess

Yup..  All part of the experience..  🙂

By the way I am a big Slash fan too.. One of the reasons I play guitar and why I bought this. Id love a Slash LP but he likes fat necks and thats one thing that is a no go for me. So I have a LP Classic which is my main LP and a Slash SL5. These old Classics have really hot pickups in them so I get that sound pretty easy.

At 02:38, and 03:00 in this video,  that bending effect, I do not think this is what I can do with only my guitar and amp without any pedal. So, my question is try to figure out what pedals can make that sound.

Well I have watched five different versions of that song now with two different guitarist and none of them do it live.. So I say he used a whammy bar for the effect in the studio and just leaves it out when he plays it live.

Is that not just a whammy bar? He does use them on occasion. I just saw another version of Slash doing it live and he just bends the note normally...  As for which specific pedals hes using im not sure..  Maybe the octave fuzz, or just a booster..

Thanks, Rabs. I actually watched these two videos recently. They're great videos.  As for the Slash pedal collection video, there are too many pedals there. So, it may take sometime for me to figure out the uses of them.

Yeah...  Pedals, amps and pickups is a deep deep rabbit hole..

The thing is my best advice after all these years on here and discussing this sort if thing..  You are way better off spending that time not trying to sound like someone else but working out what sort of player you are.

Its all part of the fun in the hobby though.. Getting new pedals, guitars and amps along the way and trying it all to get that sound thats in your head in to real life does take time but its what keeps you going sometimes.

  9. Slash has quite an overdriven sound..  His guitars come with pickups that are hotter than your average Les Paul.. Also his amp is also dialed in to that high gain sound.. And then obviously theres some kind of fuzz or overdrive pedal he uses..

And yes I am going to post this video again.. Its so useful for LP players who dont use their knobs...

So yes..  Possibly the tone knob is turned down too...

That looks awful ... sorry, man

Yeah it sucked.. I mean it happened over a decade ago now and its still like that. I keep thinking about fixing it but really its neither here nor there in the end. However when this happened I had only had it a few days, so yeah it stung a bit at the time. Im just glad I didnt do that to my Standard or Classic.

  11. It does happen.. I have regular floor stands. I knew about the issue but for some reason when I got my goldtop tribute I did the legs of the stand but must have gotten distracted or something as I forgot to do the bit where the back of the guitar rests on it and this happened. Even though this is just a studio I was still pretty miffed by it.

The last I remember hearing about the Hercules stands was that even though some people say that their stands are ok with nitro, they actually removed that bit of there web site where it talked about being nitro safe. Which while they probably only did that to avoid litigation sorta also tells me something.

I ordered the stand Hercules GS415B .  Their CS told me it was okay, it would not hurt the surface. I think I can give it a try. Now it's in the case after I played .

Yeah, id watch that if I were you. There has been much discussion about those stands many people saying they still cause blistering on a nitro finish... Use some cloth over the bits that contact the guitar. Cant hurt.

  14. No.. If its all the way down then its down to the neck angle.

The only things you could do is see if you can find a bridge that fits that has a lower profile than whats on there.. OR counter sink the bridge posts in to the body which would require you removing the posts and drilling in to the top.

So.. No... No easy way if the bridge is all the way down. I guess you could deepen the nut /bridge slots a bit but then you are asking for all sorts of trouble.

The Pelham Blue and Cardinal Red are the two that are really tempting me. I can't really decide on which one, but I am probably going to wait a while. I already have three Les Pauls, and I just bought a second MESA amp, and it's time for my annual update to my Pro Tools Ultimate perpetual license... not to mention the fact that the holidays are right around the corner, so I need to watch the cash outlay. But I'm pretty sure I'm going to wind up with one of these eventually.

Not Pehlam Blue but they are calling it Inverness Green Satin.

I'm really interested in the new Les Paul Studio Modern.
    Especially the wine red one

Yeah, I liked that too, quite a lot.. Especially  as these are the first studios with Ebony boards I think since the mid 90s.
