  1. I can do recording and sound editing and stuff..

Hadnt done for ages but recently I did a recording for my niece which is part of her music exam (shes 15)..  And actually I really enjoyed it. Its meant to be like a rock theme song for a horror show so I played live bass and guitars and did the drums on the editor. But I have little reason to do it alone these days. I dont really have like any songs that need to be heard or really any sort of vision for that thing much any more.  Im happy to help if I can but am not sure how much I can add musically.

It’s amazing the things that can be done.  It’s “brave, new world.”  This technology is in its infancy.  Kind of scary to think of what some a-holes will be able to do with it———Won’t be long before people are having their lives ruined because an AI version of them appears in a crime.

There was an episode of a tv show called Black Mirror which was exactly about that. Its a series where they tell different stories each week usually to do with technology and how society will handle it. Really good I thought. Sorta like a modern day Twilight Zone but linked to technology.

Anyway, in the first episode of the last series they had an episode called Joan is Awful. And its very much about that. Using a sort of Netflix type company, anyone who signs up to watch Netflix can be in this AI made show which uses the victims email and phone cameras and stuff like that to show their life on TV (but with AI generated actors) and it totally ruins her life.  Brilliant TV but scary thinking how close we are to that sort of thing.

  3. Wow. Ok. I had seen this pop up in my youtube suggestions as it knows I like technology. I had been ignoring it all week as so far, what I have seen of AI generated images, I havent really liked mostly. Theres a weird dream like quality to them.. Almost like a Dali painting. Today I gave in as these videos dont seem to stop and HOLY CRAP...  I was not expecting that.. This AI stuff is getting really powerful really quickly..

So this is ALL totally AI generated with no editing. Just from text input.

Looks like a LP Studio that went on a diet to me. Why does Gibson need 300 variations of every guitar they make?

This one is the same as this one only it has different tuners on it so its a new model.

Well this is what happened in the Henry J era..  They had said previously that they were just going to stick to a core line up but thats obviously changed under the new CEO...

Its a tough one it really is. Produce a limited line up and people call it boring and the same. Introduce more variations and people complain theres too many too choose from.

I think as I have said before. They should use the many many different types of wood out there and produce real limited editions in small numbers BUT not charge stupid amounts just for having a different top. Like a zebra wood one (which they have done before), Ash bodies or whatever. A few hundred extra for a different top on top of the usual price and they would fly off the shelves.

I liked the guitar of the week or guitar of the month idea.

The same thing happens almost every time they try to release a new model. Ohh, thats not a real Gibson it doesnt look like its from the 50s... And the one new guitar that was from the 50s (that Ted Mcarty one), well that was just ugly (I think).. No wonder they didnt sell well.

But then at the same time, this is the double edged sword for a company who bases their business on what they did in the 50s..  How can they move on from that when its how they sell guitars?

I actually think the LP Lite is a great idea and would love to see a Standard or Classic version (like the old LP Less Plus)..  But please not with a 50s neck 🙂   Its one of the few guitars that given the chance I would  be very very very tempted by.

Of all the things I have seen Gibson do over the years, this is still my favorite idea they had.

If you take a close look at the pictures of the two "different" Les Pauls in Pelham Blue, you would see that they are the same guitar down to the same serial #.

Im ok with the explanation given. That, the colour is exclusive to the Gibson shop and its listed in two places so people can find it depending on what sub section they look at..

And for the pickup blurb.. Im ok with that too.. Its just marketing, what is it meant to say. I expect that sort of flowery language when describing a product. Cos lets be honest, sound is subjective so what it means to one person will mean something different to another.

It does get a bit much sometimes though, id agree with that. But thats just the world we live in.

  6. I think it was Farns testing one of his AI creations on us..

If that is true..  Good job, down to the stupid memes and non sensical talk obsessed with a single aspect only of the way LPs are built over absolutely every thing else that has ever existed....  What a weird thing to focus on?  The tone wood debate I get, but this? It was just weird.

  7. Ok for hell of it.

In one way Fuji is correct.

Gibson guitars are over priced. That recent release of the 59 pickups, ridiculous...  And Gibson could use a few changes (which they do offer a bit in the modern line up). HOWEVER, I will be the first to admit that Gibson absolutely run their business based on their history. Its in the name, its what people want on their headstock and they know it.

I also dont get the guitars for 10k and above or the relicing  and the ridiculous (ludicrous sometimes) prices for that. But if thats what Gibson want to do, well they are a business and they will do what they do. And guess what, I just dont buy that stuff..  But there are people who do.. Mostly they dont come on this forum.. Most of us just love our guitars and come to places like this to share that with other who feel the same. It doesnt mean we love everything Gibson does by far. You should have seen what happened in 2015.

But, this nonsense of us knowing that not having a gap is better.. Its just trolling nonsense which makes no sense.

Holy **** you spent $5K on a Greco?! lol no wonder you’re so worried about justifying Japanese superiority

Maybe some day those superior luthiers will come up with an idea worth copying and the whole thing can come full circle

Yeah I have never spent that much on a guitar.. Even my 336's which are customs were 3k and less (and they are perfect).

I just think it's a shame that Gibson doesn't offer the best instruments even though they created them. I'd rather an American company be king of the les pauls and ES335's and I know that if Gibson returned to 50's specs on the neck joint then they would once again be competitive and sell instruments because they are quality, not because middle aged men have brand loyalty to gibson. If Gibson did that one thing, it would turn that company around. Current Gibson management needs to be fired.

But you still havent told us why....  The gap makes no difference to anything..  A 335 is hollow and has a whole body of air behind it.. Does that mean it has no tone or sustain?

Im sorry but its just nonsense.

Rabs do you even have good tone?? Fuji we really need to hear your tone to put an end to this once and for all

Well now I am questioning it... It seems my thirty odd years or so of playing Gibsons I was wrong because some random person told me that the set necks on my guitars arent good enough.. So now I am just going to sell them all and get a ukulele,,  Gibson you suck. Thanks Fuji, you really set us all straight on this topic.

Proof? I don't need to prove what you already know is true. Even so, I posted pics of 4 different las pauls with bad neck joints.

All I'm saying is that if Gibson got rid of that neck heel and returned to 50's specs then it would greatly improve the quality of their guitars because then every neck joint would be a good one and you simps all reacted as if I'd threatened to burn down the Gibson factory. You are all completely useless, to be quite honest. You're like the hangers on that surround a celebrity that gets addicted to drugs and starts going downhill. You' ll continue to heap uncritical praise on gibson until the their last asset has been liquidated by the bankruptcy court.

Nope.. What you say I absolutely think is not true what so ever..  And I have built my own guitars as well as spoken to people on here (hundreds of them) about this same subject for over a decade.

I say, if you are coming on here making such a claim when us actual LP owners say we think different. You absolutely need some sort of proof. Otherwise why are you saying it at all. How does that 5 mm gap make any difference?

Im quite happy to talk about it but not if you just make claims which have no basis in fact...   And no im not acting like this because I think you insulted Gibson, I couldnt care less, they are just a company. I am acting like this as what you say is just utter nonsense.

I bet you're over 50 and have never progressed further than noodling around on a guitar, right? This conversation is for real guitar players who use their instruments for more than showing to their guests on holidays. Simping for gibson is like falling in love with a prostitute. the affection will never be returned.

HAHAHAHA,, That was actually quite funny..

And just proves you are nothing but a troll..

I dont have to prove anything to you..

As said.. If you have proof of what you say. Please show us.. If not.. Just go away.. Not interested in arguing with idiots.. Especially people who use the word simping.  And no im not over 50.. How very dare you... 🤪

I used to be a moderator on a forum that had this one guy that would put up “fan” posts with hidden snipes or veiled jabs at the product.  Posts like, “oh, great product. I did my whole project with it, turned out perfect, and even though X disaster happened and I had to do Y, it worked out.” Or, “Yeah, it has these leading edge features, but I wish it did X or had Y, like these other guys do.”

Guess who he worked for?  We kept kicking him but he’d just pop back up with a new nick. It got to be a total joke.  And man would he get nasty and insulting too when we just started calling him out on his BS.

I dont mind when people come on and complain about the product. We are all fully aware that when buying a Gibson you gotta do a bit of searching to find that one, that A, suits you and B, doesnt have any issues. And we have seen plenty of real issues with Gibsons over the years.

What I do have an issue with is when someone comes on with no proof at all apart from its something they may believe and suggests that any guitar that isnt built to a certain spec is not going to have good tone or sustain. That is obviously trolling which is why I said it. And its not something I do often on here. And it is total nonsense.

If the OP has some sort of proof, fine.. Show us. But if he somehow expects all of us Gibson owners who love our guitars to all of a sudden say, OMG he is so right. I now hate all my guitars that I have loved all these years and want to sell them. Well, that would be a bit ga ga..  So what else can it be but trolling?

  14. Also by this so called logic.. Does that mean that a neck through has the best tone? No neck joint, full contact...  If so why arent all guitars neck throughs?

Even if what the OP said was true (which it isnt), The whole point of electric guitars is that they are amplified. So if you want more sustain and tone, thats what your amp settings and pedals are for...
