  1. I would recommend getting whichever Firebird or Guitar with the Original Gibson USA Mini Humbuckers... They are proven great Pickups.. Seems every time the new & improved whatever comes along it turns out it isn't...
  2. Yeah, many of us do too... It's just another thing you have to haul around & plug in though... Wouldn't it be nice if a a Tuner was just there? All you'd have to do is tune the bloody Guitar without any extra outside stuff?
  3. Gibson USA P90's are the best & most versatile Pickup ever made... Casino's, ES330's & Les Paul's sound amazing & can do anything... I must say it again, the Mini Humbuckers in the Firebird are somewhere between a Humbucker & a P90. They are the best of both Worlds.. Truly a wonderful sounding Guitar... You've got to try one... If you want P90's or Humbuckers why bother with a Firebird? Plenty of SG's, Les Paul's, ES335's & others that sound amazing? Those Guitars are much easier to find & some are probably less expensive...
  4. Knock on wood, but neither of my Vox Amps have ever broke down & they are used almost every day or night... Wish I could say the same for my Fenders.. Both my Twin & DRRI have had break downs & the Closest Fender Autorized Repair Center was a 2 hour drive & the Amps were their a couple weeks... Very in convenient... My Princeton has had no break downs.. All are out of Warranty. Luckily now there is a great Amp Tech locally.. He works on all Amps & is Fender Authorized... Down time for my last Twin repair was a couple days... I'm sure it would be about the same for my Vox's & Marshall..
  5. Tell that to John, Paul & George, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Keith Richards & a whole bunch of other Cats who did all right with them.... That said, a proper Firebird with Mini Humbuckers are, well, Firebirds... Anything else is a Franken-Guitar....
  6. I think you meant Ian... The OP. I tried the AC4's including the 12r.. All good, just or enough oomph. I have an AC15 with Alinico Blue which is great but is heavy & loud... I wanted something smaller & lighter & Vox.. I tried the AC10C1 chose it... About the size of my Princeton & has 10 (Tube) Watts. It is comparable Power wise but has the Vox Sound. Besides, Bedroom & Recording it is also Gig worthy... Really good all around Amp.. No problem with lows.. The 10" Speaker holds it's own against my Princeton, DRRI & AC15.. It it was good out of the box but I upgraded the Speaker to a Weber & upgraded the Cheap Tubes which come with most Amps..it is one of my main go to Amps... i have quite a few Amps.. There is nothing wrong with the AC4's but for my all around wants & needs it was just too small....
  7. I find new Acoustic Guitars have nowhere near the Sound and Tone of an Aged Acoustic Guitar. Most are of no interest to me. The only one I've played recently that compares to my 1975 D35 is a Collings... I have Gibson & Epis too which sound great but not compared to my D35.. I did play an older J200 recently that sounded beautiful!
  8. In that case I'd seriously try the Laney.. I think there are Online Retailers that do 45 day no hassle Return or Exchange... I haven't tried that small one but Laney has some pretty sweet Amps. Especially if you lean towards a Vox sound... Good luck!
  9. The AC4 is a good bedroom Amp. For a bit more you can have a Vox AC10C1 (much less expensive than a comparable Fender PRRI) which is more versatile than the AC4 & can be used for Jams & Gigs.. It also has it's own Reverb.. Small & Light weight too... Also, If you should ever want to, they're easy to Mod......
  10. If an Electric Guitar is plugged in could there be a way for enough Current to run to the Guitar being the Power Source for an on board Tuner? If it's possible, it would be great to have another Pedal on my Board instead of the Tuner on my Pedal Board.. I use Snarks too.. Ugly & easily broken, but they work.. They use a coin size Battery.. Seems that also could be doable for an onboard unobtrusive built in Tuner on Electric Guitars.. Thereby not having to go the full Active Electronics route & plus the coin size Batteries save space & weight..
  11. He not only killed the resale value he killed the Tone that took years for the original Woods & Finish to develop. I would Sue the MF'r... Several years ago I sent my 1975 D35 to Martin for some Warranty Work... They did an amazing job. I asked them if they would Refinish the Guitar to look like new. They said, No! Why? Because it would an equal number of years to develop the amazing Sound & Tone that it had... That Luthier owes you a comparable Guitar or the Money to acquire one....
  12. I own a 2000 Gibson J-160E. It's a Bozeman Masterbilt with the Solid Top. I have Martin's & other Acoustics but the J-160E is my favorite... Yours is very cool! You are doing a great Restoration from what I can see.. That is a very Collectable Guitar IMO. Can the original P90 Pickup be repaired? No offense intended but that beautiful USA Gibson Guitar deserves a proper USA Gibson P90... Not the Asian P100... Otherwise congrats on a beautiful Guitar & restoration...
  13. One I've never played before til we decided to add it to our Set list.... "Here Comes The Sun". Capo'd up on the 7th Fret. Cool Acoustic Guitar Part....
  14. I probably should mention that I play several different Electric Guitars as well. In the different Bands I play with I play Acoustics & Electrics. Equally, each about half the time. Hence the need for Amps that are great sounding, hard working, easily replaceable & don't break the Bank that can do double duty.. IMO & experience the Amps I listed that I use check all the boxes.....
  15. As far as Acoustics I have a Vintage Martin D-35 (Martin Factory added Fishman Electronics), a 2000 Masterbilt Gibson Solid Top J-160E, a Martin D-18 12 String Acoustic Electric, an Epiphone Texan Acoustic Electric & an Alvarez Classical Acoustic Electric Guitar.. I do indeed play them them thru my Fender 65 PRRI, 65 DRRI, Twin, Vox AC10C1 & Vox AC15CC1X & they sound great... I run with single Amps & run different variations of Amps in Stereo via my Keeley 30 MS Double Tracker Pedal. The possibilities are infinite! Ive tried a lot of the above mentioned as well & they're good too...
  16. There are many great Amps but most of the really good ones are more than $1000.00. That said, I think it's really hard to beat a Fender Amp for Gibson Acoustics. Princeton Reissues, Deluxe Reverbs & Twins are great! The first 2 being in your budget range. They are Reasonably Priced, easy to Service, Bullet proof Workhorses. If need be, easy to replace....
  17. In this order, Tuner, Janglebox, TS808 Tube Screamer, Boss Digital Delay & Boss '64 Fender Reverb........
  18. "For No One" by "The Beatles"... I've never played it until a couple days ago. I play it on me Inspired by Paul Mc Cartney Epi Texan or my Gibson J-160E thru one of my Vox Amps. I sing the Vocal as well. I'm not a Beatle Trib Artist but love singing & playing their Music..
  19. I got the Allparts Chrome Dogear Covers. I measured them & my Epi Reissue 1961 50th Anniv. Casino with USA P90's. The measurements appear to be the same. Eureka! Next, remove the old Black Plastic Dogear Covers & install the Chrome Covers.. Do the Pickups have to come completely out or will unscrewing the 2 Screws allow me to just remove the Plastic Covers? Thanks, Lars
  20. After 2 years of looking for new ones I'd be surprised to. But, we'll see.. If not, I'll contact you about yours. Thanks,
  21. They seem to think they're USA Spec. so I ordered a Set. I'll let you know... Thanks
  22. I'll give them a call... Hopefully they are..
  23. I've tried them, Ebay, Reverb & most usual places including Gibson, Fralin, Duncan etc. Nobody carries Gibson USA Spec Chrome Nickel Dogear P90 Covers. At least that I've been able to find... Thanks
  24. Thanks for the reply. They have Black & Creme Plastic Dogear Covers.. No Chrome Nickel Gibson USA Spec....
