gearbasher
Well....it looks like Therm is going to screw with John' s guitar......let us pray..... I guess it's ok. As long as it's only the guitar he screws (with).

gearbasher
Don't forget your Allen Keys My J45's necks like a prayin mantis!! Here's a stupid question. Not one of my Gibbys requires an allen key for anything. What's he using the allen for? Do older J-45s need an allen for adjustments? My Martin, on the other hand, does need one for a truss rod adj. Thermionik
Johnt keeps saying 'pack your Allen keys.....' If memory serves me, the Norlin J-45 has a Hex-wrench at 5/16". But what is the point in pissing on him about his terminology..... I pack the Hex-wrenches, I do the job, he is happy. All HE wants to do is play, not engineering. Now lighten up, or I'll lay some heavy science on you.
gearbasher
Sorry, I wasn't pissing on him. I was just curious. I've never worked on a Gibson acoustic older than a '93. Now by "hex wrenches" do you mean "nut drivers"? To us "hex wrenches' and "allen keys" are the same thing.
Thermionik
The US nomenclature trips me up every time We call a thing that undoes nuts a spanner - you call it a nut-wrench. We call a thing that undoes by fitting inside a hex hole an Allen key - you say hex-wrench. You have Nutdriver Combo sets, we have Socket-Sets. I have seen Allen key and Allen wrench interchanged too, and don't start me on monkey wrenches..... I shall be taking a six-sided chrome-vanadium steel socket on the end of an arm made by your Xcelite Tools company, actually the full '99 Xcelite USA' cased toolkit from way back when. Damned handle STILL smells like puke, but the best set I ever had and been with me ever since (like thirty years and counting). Not too proud to admit the yanks got it right..... quite often
onewilyfool
I don't want to throw a wrench into the works here, but what do you guys call flat head screwdrivers, and Philip's head screwdrivers?????? And what do you call a Vodka and orange juice????? (hint). Vodka and PRUNE juice is called a "Pile Driver"
Thermionik
Flat head screwdrivers - well, I don't know - the flat-head was a Ford engine as I recall..... .....we probably call 'em Fordies. Philip's head screwdrivers - I guess that's up to Philip..... .....if'n he wants to give them names, why, that's his choice. As for Vodka and orange juice - well I'd call it a waste of Vodka, a bit like Scotch with ice, dreadful way to treat a fine whiskey, sort of thing the Americans do..... why, I recall one time, we drank Canada dry, then we moved on to the States.
