daveinspain
I just got this from Guitar Center advertising a Gibson Custom 1960 Les Paul VOS Plain Top. The price is not bad but don't all customs have an ebony fret board rectangular inlays and the double parallelogram on the headstock and Les Paul Custom written on the TRC? Tim Plains
Custom as in Custom Shop, yes. It's a G0, meaning a 1960 LP plain top Guitar Center exclusive reissue. Same as an R0, except for the top and a few other minor differences. Reflector knobs, maybe caps...things along those lines.
AXE®
One of the few Guitar Denter exclusives that is worth a toss...
RichCI
Guitar Center exclusive reissue. That must be how they guarantee having the lowest price.
bobv
You're absolutely right, it's not a Les Paul Custom. It's from the Custom Shop. BUT even they will tell you it's not a Historic Reissue because they dont' consider it to be so don't try comparing the price to a 1960 Historic Reissue. There's a FAQ somewhere buried on Gibson's site about the differences (the Guitar Center G0's don't have CTS pots, or bumblebee capacitors, or a figured maple top, the color offerings are different, generally is available in gloss and not the VOS patinated treatment, or the lacquer has the VOS and the hardware might not). Basically they're a limited run for a particular retailer, and that retailer has been doing it for awhile. So it's not an "RO" (Reissue 1960) it's a "G0". Serial number starts with G0. By the way don't expect the sales staff at GC to know any of this. On the plus side, you get a one-piece non, weight-relieved back, Burstbucker 1&2 pickups, nice pointy fretboard inlays, and a general level of craftsmanship that you can only get from the Custom Shop (just for laughs look for posts by a guy named R9).
