E-minor7 Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Here's a little something for the time-travellers - don't stay back there, please, , , and come safe home. http://forgottenguit...-in-1679-video/
E-minor7 Posted February 4, 2016 Author Posted February 4, 2016 I tried to click the link a few times and it should work - however the video seems to disappear, , , or come and go. So notice there should be a test-recording by Roy Lislevand in the article - a very fine one even. .
j45nick Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Pretty remarkable how sophisticated and even modern it sounds, given its age. Interesting that it has double string courses in modern standard tuning, plus a single(presumably high) E string. Of course, the performance is brilliant, and he seems really pleased with the guitar at the end. If I played it, the thing would sound like a $5 Chinese ukulele.
MissouriPicker Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Yeah, but how would it sound on "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "Street Fightin' Man"?.....lol
E-minor7 Posted February 4, 2016 Author Posted February 4, 2016 Yeah, but how would it sound on "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "Street Fightin' Man"?.....lol He, , , I actually think it would work quite fine on As Tears Go By, Lady Jane and She's a Rainbow. .

BluesKing777 Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Did they say the value? Some Strad violins are over 7 million Pounds..... Rolf is great on the Sabionari, but plays a bit quick to hear the tone of the guitar. But Ugo here plays it beautifully: BluesKing777.
j45nick Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Are you sure it isn't the low E - take a listen and watch the barré-chord on 1:59. Follow the link in the article to the guitar's own website. It appears to be that the high E is a singleton. The other strings appear to be paired unisons.

Fullmental Alpinist Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Thanks for posting that EM7. Here's a vid about a 10 million dollar Gibson violin--bet you didn't know there is a Gibson violin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkKVAXlfPVQ
aliasphobias Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Very cool. Now that is "vintage"! Thanks for posting. As for the "Gibson", FMA I am not sure you really ever "own" a Strad you just make payments on it.

Ooooohhh, that's heavy stuff there - tho the instrument itself probably is light as a feather. 10.000.000, , , yes, of course - it's an extraordinary artefact and a piece of more than precious unika. But I can't belive those seven zeros is heard in the sound - four of them perhaps, , , the rest is culture. . Still so reassuring to know a guy like this points his whole life toward these instruments - they are on several levels in good hands.
mountainpicker Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 They should try loaning that one out for a Tarantino movie!
