Fun doings in Kalamazoo. Heritage Guitar and the owners of 225 Parsons Street will be hosting a 225 Parsons Street 100th Anniversary Celebration. Private event Friday, September 8 and public event Saturday, September 9. I'll be there for both and hope that folks in the area can stop by.

That’s good news about the building getting a second life. Seeing this photo . . .

. . . the fate of the iconic smokestack was unclear. A recent trip around the block on google maps Street View showed the ’stack in the process of being dismantled, or carefully demo’ed (only the “o” and “n” remaining):

. . . was this so that it could be reconstructed, or only for building/safety reasons? [EDIT: I see some letters over the left shoulder of the proposed renovation [smile]] Maybe an update will given during the anniversary.

Hopefully, 225 Parsons will still look like something the Kalamazoo Gals would recognize, and be proud of.

Yes, the smokestack is being disassembled for restoration. It will be rebuilt.

The owners asked me to visit a few months ago to tour the construction process. I snapped this pic of one of my Banners:

I've be visiting again, obviously, to attend the 100th events. My date will be one of the two surviving Gals (she's a spry 95 years old). I'll report back, with photos.

Saturday's public event runs from 11:am to 6:00 pm and will include free food and drink, tours of the building, a "State of the Factory" talk at 3:30 pm, and some great musical acts, uh, plus me on a Banner Gibson.

Schedule and information here.

Good stuff, wish I could be there but I have a prior commitment os this gonna be a one time event or is there annual events?

Well, I imagine that there will be a 200th celebration! :)

I don't imagine that this will be replicated, but the completed building will have a performance space.

I bought your book-"Kalamazoo Gals" and really enjoyed it, John. Terrific work. Wish I could make it to the event. Have a great weekend.
