tom brown Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 The Sg has the “57” s and a slim taper neck . i really like the 339 but i miss my SG and have the itch for one. There is one on reverb but have the sell the 339 to fund it. The 339 is extremely versatile but I know SG would substain a lot better. any thoughts ?
dReit1 Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 IMHO There are always nice SGs for sale on Reverb. And everyplace else. Good semi-hollows, not so much! If you have a good one, keep it and save up for the SG. Or pickup a cheaper SG copy until you can afford a better one. D If you need more sustain buy a pedal.
merciful-evans Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Sounds like you need an SG. Never owned one, though I have always loved the looks. I do have a 339 (with 57s). Sustain? One nice thing about a semi-hollow is controlled feedback. That's plenty enough sustain for me.
Twang Gang Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 A 339 semi-hollow and an SG are quite two different guitars and generally used for two different styles of playing. You need to decide what style you play most and which guitar best fits that style.
SteveT2 Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 I have a 2012 SG Std and a 2014 339 Studio. The SG has the 490/498 pickups, the 339 has 57 Classics. Two totally different sounding guitars but the 339 will sustain just as well, if not better than SG. As mentioned above you can always find an SG, a 339 isnt as easily found. If you like the one you have I suggest keeping it as well
