pippy
Put your serial number into the 'guitar dater' website and it should tell you when and where your guitar was made. Just google guitar dater and follow the instructions. Good luck.

pippy
Could be real or a scam. Try to get snaps and post them here. A lot of folks here really know their stuff.
jasongtr
yeah i got the pre 77 message but then entered the fact it was solid body and inked serial number and it came back ok (or at least i thought) heres the pics i have of her,
bigneil
if it is a 1977 then it looks in great shape for its age.......perhaps too good. but i am not an expert either.
jasongtr
no its not a 1977 thats what guitar dater said its pre 1977 then i put in the extra data and it came back saying a 1997 or 2007, its being sold as a 1997
bigneil
i just googled for pics of 77 black beauties and had a really close look. there a few details that don't tie in or make sense. look at the shape of the winders. jasongtr is probably right, but i would still invetigate further
bigneil
Doh! i just re-read your original post...... i read 77 instead of 97 for some reason :)

Flyer
Have a look at the frets. They should be covered at the ends by the binding along the fretboard. (In other words the frets should appear to be integral to the white plastic binding) I can't see clearly enough from your pics. Good luck
pippy
Looks real to me. However; you can buy them brand-spanking new for about 2,400 sterling and that's without trying to find any bargains on offer.
six-string
looks pretty good to me. it is a 2002 Reissue of a 57 black beauty. there should be/could be a certificate of authenticity from Gibson Historic division with the guitar. unless the original owner lost it. pippy
it is a 2002 Reissue of a 57 black beauty. Amending my previous post ; if it's a 57 RI then 1,900 (Sterling) seems fair. The RI's normally go for about 3,100 new.
Thundergod
if it is a 1977 then it looks in great shape for its age.......perhaps too good. but i am not an expert either. Its NOT a 77 nor is it being sold as one... its a 97...
